Longtime lurker, first time poster 😉
I haven't noticed much (or any) discussion about these two characters. We know Beverly works at the Great Northern and she 'apparently' doesn't know anything about Special Agent Dale Cooper or Laura Palmer. (loved the tip-of-the-hat to INLAND EMPIRE when Ben says: "It's getting way past quitting time") Now, Tom... was this our first introduction to this character? I'll bet everyone automatically assumed he is Beverly's hubbie; I know I did, but then I thought there could be an alternate relationship... perhaps father/daughter, uncle/niece???
As always, there is plenty of room for speculation... so speculate away!

Social conditioning down the generations easily leads us to assumptions, so it sounds like I wasn't alone with the assumption that Tom was Beverly's husband. That may not be the case at all. There was tension between them, but any of us with siblings would likely attest to that being possible. 😉
My point here is around the building tension between Beverly and Ben Horne. He is a cad at heart, and Jerry (currently lost in the woods and high! 😀 ) asked him if he was b*nging her yet. Ben said, '...and she's married.' As predictable as this might sound, my guess is they'll end up in bed in the not too distant. That said, it's kinda predictable, but we are creatures of habit, so I guess we'll see... 😉
The cards have been dealt to offer up a very tempting situation for Beverly. At first mention that she was married, I of course thought that 1) her husband was a regular easy-going person of no particular accord and 2) Ben had settled down his promiscuous tendencies. But now seeing the cutesy scene between them with the mature flirtation and then follow-up purgatory she has to return to nightly, I can easily find a plausible tryst between Beverly and Ben.
I going for him being her husband, having similar problems in my daily that scene was tearing my heart apart
Maybe Ben is heading back to his former self, in a way like Nadine did back then. A lot in this episode seems to indicate things happening again, doesn't it?
