Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
- She's a bit of a bitch to Dougie/Coop but how she dealt with the loan sharks was pretty bad ass
And we know she lied to those guys about it being impossible to get 50K together. Story-wise her having the meet with them delayed her intending to get "Dougie" looked at by a doctor.
Dougie was a piece of shit as a human being. Crap husband, crap father. How can you blame Janey-E for being harsh to him? I mean, she doesn't know she's dealing with Coop. All she knows is that Dougie is going through one of his episodes again (side effects of his drinking, gambling fucking-with-the-wrong-people lifestyle), probably for longer than usual.

From the other hand Dougie could have Bipolar Disorder through his life... People suffering this kind of sicknes ener maniac state and do unusual things they wouldn't normaly do like gambling, drinking, falling in love, having casual sex and when this episode ends they start to be very depresed. Perhaps that's why she says to him that he is having one of his episodes.
If Dougie has presented himself in this way before being replaced by Dale then his symptoms would indicate a very serious level of psychosis. It's true that after effects of prolonged alcoholism or too many psychoactive drugs could present themselves in a similar way to someone in or coming out of a psychotic episode.
I'm not entirely sure how the health service works in America but pretty much anywhere else he'd be on or would have been on anti-psychotic medication with regularly psychiatric supervision, his family would be aware of this (as he is now presenting himself as someone who, if he was on his own, would be sectioned for their own good). If he has been on medication and psychiatric help (again anyone in this state (who hasn't just passed between planes of existence via an electrical outlet) would be) then any withdrawal would be phased and any relapse would lead to re-commencement of treatment. Janey-E would definitely not be pushing him out the door to work or be worried about him being fired (America must have some kind of protection for workers who are physically or mentally too ill to work?)
Maybe it is a commentary on the American Health Service ?? Or maybe the assumptions I made based on worker's rights and becoming ill were wrong and the commentary was about this.
It is very, very frustrating to have to wait a week to see if he's made any improvement to find that he is no closer to becoming FBI Agent Dale Cooper in the town of Twin Peaks (a point we know will be reached).
Different note - loved how she didn't kowtow to the loan shark guys! She's made of very strong stuff.
Loan shark guys were so suprised by her spirit and logic. They are not used to people who are not scared.
The US psychiatric system works pretty much how you described it. If Dougie had prior episodes of BP Disorder or diagnosed schizophrenia he'd most certainly be on or in the past been on the proper meds and his spouse would have been well aware of this. It's telling that Janey-E has not questioned Dougie about him being off his meds or needing to take them. That seems to indicate that while Dougie is a substtance abuser, he probably didn't have a prior history of mental illness.

It could be commentary on how people ignore and justify the things that are staring them in the face. Dougie is in trouble. Laura was also in trouble. Nobody helps them. A few people comment on it but nobody really addresses it.
I must disagree that Cooper is not closer to becoming S.A. Dale Cooper. I think he's definitely coming around. Yes slowly, but his progress was quite noticeable last night. This is evident in that he is functioning better and starting to actually interact with the world some. And whatever he uncovered for his boss, I'm pretty sure that was dome Dale Cooper investigating.
I also thought is was very poignant when he said to his boss "Help Dougie."
Janey-E is definitely tough as nails. However, it leads me to further suspect that she is a "plant" or an employee/handler of sorts. I hate to refer to another show, but if anyone has ever seen Orphan Black, all the clones had watchers, placed in their lives to, well, watch them. There was a point when Dougie and Janey were sitting at the table and Naomi Watts acting suddenly went to a weird level. It got strangely dramatic and seemed like she was overacting. It was really odd. Did anyone else notice that. Additionally, she didn't seem all that upset that her husband had been with a prostitute or that loan sharks are calling the house. She played dutifully upset, but this was also part of that strange performance. Then she's just kind of over it and kisses him on the head and cleans up the dishes. It's like Janey-E was putting on a show.

I agree, i also thought Naomi Watts acting was a bit odd at times. I think she and her son are definitely more than what we know.
Right now and in my humble opinion, Janey-E is the most interesting new character.

Her and Sonny Jim.
Naomi Watt's acting was very similar to her scene in Mulholland Dr as Betty where she went for the audition. That Betty scene was purposefully overacted and I have found her scenes in TP to be very similar so I too think Janey-E could be some sort of plant.
It's absolutely a commentary on the American health care mentality and social norms in general. People let things get pretty bad until finally something gets done about them. Most would rather ignore a problem and just hope it goes away rather than step up to help.

and don't forget her name is not very... organic
