I watched seasons 1-2, I've watched 1-5 of the return. I DIDNT read the books.
I had a somewhat grip on what went down in 1-4 (there's some I just said "yea, no clue, I'll see if this is explained"), but episode 5 just lost me all over.
Some stuff im looking for help with...
1. The cars going to "Doug's" house. Who are those people?
2. The whole doug at work thing. What's going on there, what hints did I miss?
3. Anyone think the red balloons at Doug's work mean anything?
5. The FBI agent looking at the pictures/fingerprints. Is it me or did that look like a pic of old coop IN the red room?
6. The bang bang bar. What was up with that dude borderline raping that girl?
7. Anything else you want to throw out there I may have missed. This new episode really threw me off.
I don't know any more than anyone else, but here's the best answers i can come up with so far:
- I suspect the shady folks looking for Dougie Jones were hired by Evil Coop. their boss dialed Evil coop's magic modem box thing when they failed to find Dougie.
- dougie's workplace scene shows that he can detect lies as easily as he can spot about-to-jackpot slot machines. maybe he's in a trance all the time because he is processing all the additional details his augmented senses pick up?
- my best guess is red balloons = "99 red balloons," 80s pop song about balloons accidentally setting off all kinds of military scanners and making people paranoid = the dougie's office plot is a red herring
- i thought i saw the owl cave symbol in the fingerprints. ties in with evil coop tho, so there may be something in it.
- Rapey dude is Richard Horne according to the credits. so connected to Ben, Jerry, and Audrey somehow. and he acts like Frank Booth in Blue Velvet
I am getting a bit tired of good coop's Rain Man routine. I can appreciate that his brain is scrambled from years in the black lodge and he needs somee time to recover, and that everyone thinking he is Dougie Jones just gets in the way of that, but i feel like if Gordon Cole could get wind of Evil Coop turning up someplace he would be equally notified of a different Coop showing up all over the las vegas security cameras. We've got thirteen episodes remaining of Twin Peaks The Return, and nobody's returned to twin peaks yet.
1. Not a bad theory. Wtf was that modem thing that shrinky dinkie'd when coop called it???
2. I did catch the green light/detector thing.
3. Interesting theory..Something is also up with that statue. We need to know who it is.
4. I assumed something was the print.
5. Saw the frank booth references. Sadly I've never seen blue velvet. Is it REALLY tied into peaks? If so, guess I have a homework assignment this week haha
The good coop storyline is kind of boring. I'll just sit back and trust lynch with it, but I do find myself going "ok, let's go" at times.
Partially bc im so intrigued by the black box, bad coop, and the actual twin peaks locale.
The car of guys who pulled up were just some young thugs decided to steal the car. Lucky for the kid they chased him away.

"Mr. C" was discovered & reported to the FBI because he was arrested, his identity was checked. No-one is checking the identity of "Dougie" at the casino ( at least so far ).
Honestly I think good coop just hasn't had enough coffee yet. I think it's hilariously going to be true that When he's re-caffeinated it's all going to click into place.
"Dougie" at work, Coop comes alive a little hearing certain words: agent, & case files, why is obvious.
I think Coop is fixated on the statue because it either reminds him of an FBI man or Harry S. Truman, or himself, or all of the above.
I'm hoping the car bomb investigation will get the Feds attention. It's killing me watching Cooper like this.
Also, I was intrigued with Dougie's license plate. DUGE LV. Duge is a Danish word meaning help or to be useful, or be good enough. Dougie has been useful to Dark Coop. Just thought it was interesting.
License plate is supposed to be read as : DUG E, "Dougie" ( LV: Las Vegas )
Seems to me there are two sets of thugs. The ones who want Dougie dead, andvthe black car guys, who MAY just be car theives, but may be something else entirely.
Someone else accuately identified one of the guys in the staff meeting as the insurance agent who wanted to speak to "Sheriff Truman".
There is a red balloon on the wall behind the drugged out woman across the street.
I am REALLY hoping that the prints turn out to be mirror images!
Yeah, I got that, it's just interesting that duge is also a word. There was enough room to spell dougelv, dougylv, dugy lv or any number of other options for that matter. Why spell it duge which happens to have a meaning unless it was a choice?
Custom plates can be limited by what others have used.

If you're referring to the pics on Facebook, I can't see how anyone thinks they look alike? Perhaps there's another guy at the meeting?
@Yambag021: I won't venture into specific answers this early in the series - everytime I come up with a theory, I almost instantly realize that there are too many things left open for it to be really solid - but I can tell you this: with the (relative) exception of Dune, The Elephant Man and The Straight Story, all of Lynch's works tie into each other (hell, even the video for "Crazy Clown Time" does) and in this new series, even if we are only on 5 out of 18, there are references and connections even into some of his older short movies.
Lynch has a very specific visual language that's built and expanded upon through out his whole body of work. All this to say that, if you haven't seen Blue Velvet (or any of his other movies, really) I really suggest you do : -) You will not get a lot of answers, but the overall picture will definitely become clearer.
So Evil Hairdo Coop wants Dougie dead. Those guys are in the custom black charger. The red nova(???? Gto????) just want to steal the car. Anyone notice how dated the cars are??? Trans Am, etc....?
Did also note the red balloons outside Dougie's building.....
