Posting it in "3+4" because this is going to reference things that happen after episode 1 + 2.

So, I decided to start a rewatch because, you know, I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH. On first viewing, I assumed the first scene in the new series (with the Giant and Coop) was in the Red Room/Black Lodge. However, on re-watch, there are some things that make me think otherwise. 1) The lamp in the room is different than any others we've seen 2)as is the chair and drapery pattern looks different (I think?) and 3) maybe the biggest thing - Coop isn't wearing the pin.

Particular because of #3 - I think that maybe we're seeing something that happens later in the series - that Coop ends up going .. .back somewhere. Maybe the White Lodge? Which is why the giant says "it's in our house now?" Anyway, just throwing that out there . . .

Also - there are a TON of scenes in the first episode with chairs that have a side table and a lamp next to it. . . a TON. . .

I think you are correct and the scene has major significance with it being the first scene. It must be in the future and maybe a dream cooper has at some point.

The absence of the FBI pin seems to me a classic Lynch clue. Did Coop have the pin on his suit when he came out of the electricity socket?

Ok . . . interesting. . . just checked it out. When he comes out of the socket and is on the ground, no pin. The scene right before (when he's shoving himself through the outlet while in the. . . I don't know "floating box in non-exist-ence" - he DOES have the pin on).

Also, he DOES have the pin on when he floats into the glass box in NY

Maybe "is it future or is it past" isn't just nonsense after all?

I agree with this. The time is not linear in TP.

Nothing in the Black Lodge or other realms beyond our world is nonsense for the story.

The Giant does say to him: "You are far away."
