so, i just had this fairly late (5:18 am, cst) thought about the john doe that was found at ruth davenport's apartment. my apologies if this is a bit farfetched, but could the body possibly belong to garland briggs?

we know that mr. c. has a knack for murders, and when in the peaks police station, bobby said the last person that talked to his father before he passed was cooper. however, with good coop in the lodge, wouldn't the conversation have to be between mr. c. and briggs? c also discussed while on the phone to jeffries (or an imposter jeffries, perhaps?) that he had talked to briggs as well. could briggs have informed c that he has to go back to the black lodge soon, and in a rage, he reacted by offing him and bringing his body to the davenport apartment? the body seen in episode 1 could definitely fit the briggs of old as well.

any thoughts? again, i should've been sleeping hours ago, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I was also gonna start a thread on this.

In my opinion the John Doe can only be Briggs, since he's the only military character we know, but guess we'll have to wait and see...

I thought Briggs too.

I guess we don't know when Briggs died at the fire at his station, but if Coop went to see him the day before surely it would be around the time of his disappeatance 25 years ago or it (his visitation) would've been major news and not just something Bobby would casually bring up?

So, if it is Briggs' body surely it would be in a more severe state of decomposition? If, indeed, there's anything left?

I was thinking Briggs too. It almost seems too obvious. I'm waiting for the misdirection

Briggs died long before the contemporaneous events of season 3. He basically died right after season 2 ended -- offed by DaleBob.

Garland's last passage in the Secret History of Twin Peaks is dated 12:05pm 28 March 1989. Garland writes, "He (Cooper, following the final episode of season 2) just left. Something's wrong. The message holds the answer, just as I thought, but I've misinterpreted it. Protocols are in place. I must act quickly. I'm heading to the LPA alone."

DaleBob clearly killed Briggs in the LPA -- setting fire to it. Bobby confirms this in Season 3 episode 4. This was the last passage of the Dossier written by the Archivist (Briggs).

The body in Buckhorn is definitely not Briggs. A few decades of decomposition is a bit rougher than even that.

Keep in mind that Catherine Martell supposedly died in a fire in the original run and later turned up alive.

Just because someone seems to have died at a certain time in the Twin Peaks universe doesn't mean they did.

True, but Catherine camping out in the woods for a few days is a far cry from Briggs hiding heaven-knows-where for two and a half decades. And then there's the matter of Garland's massive head floating through space saying "Blue Rose"... Heh.

There was a moment where I was terrified the eyeless woman was going to be Josie Packard and the spaceship-steampunk-box was going to be the inside of a knob . . . So I guess anything is possible in this show. Rah!

I would find it of bad taste to include a fat and hairy naked body when Don S. David is dead. Kind of disrespectful.

But if that is the case, he must have been frozen for a long while!

Given that Bob and his pals are supernatural beings, it's not a stretch to imagine they kept Briggs' body reasonably well preserved just for such an eventuality.  It probably ain't Briggs but the chronological flow here doesn't necessarily relate to the Black Lodge and its bunch of merry pranksters.

And in that place between worlds when the Cooper hears Briggs say "Blue Rose" we see only his head floating by.

To respond to theories that involve THROWING AWAY info we have gotten from the shows ( old & new ) & FWWM, I'll us a quote from an Arnold S. movie: "IT'S NOT A TUMOR!!"

Hi there, new to the forum 🙂

Just want to share my two cents.

At no point is it categorically said that Major Briggs' body was discovered. I was under the impression that he was report missing. We have. I idea what happened to Briggs, only that he went missing on his way back to the listening post. That could entail all manner of events 🙂
