Re: escapism - Lynch should only be used as an escape from escapist television and fiims, IMO, as the term shouldn't be applied to his work. Art (colloquial) typically opposes escapism, since, if executed properly, it causes the viewer/audience to raise and ponder questions, not neglect them.

I've watched Batman and Robin several times. I just take it for what it is, cheesy, cartoonish fun, guilty pleasure film. I actually like Arnie's one liners there.

Alien Resurrection sucks. The only good Alien flicks are Alien and Aliens (if we expand definition, I'll include Prometheus too).

I can't recall the last movie I walked out of. Even if it's bad I usually finish it, or catch it later on TV.

Aliens 3 is great!  I have no idea why that one gets so much hate.

Agreed.  Although I like Aliens, it's not really in the same mould as Alien.  It's more like Rambo in Space than anything.  Alien3 has an atmosphere of claustrophobia similar to Alien.

The difference in atmosphere is what made Aliens worked for me though. Rather than try to recreate the tension and suspense in the original, James Cameron took it another route, so it's able to stand up on its own (still can't decide which of the two is better). Alien 3 is more like Alien yes, but it wasn't able to recapture the same feeling as the original (in my case anyway).

I'm going to go all out and say that James Cameron is a terrible writer and director.

Aside from Kate Winslet being in the cast, he cannot be forgiven for Titanic, ever.

I think David Fincher is a better director (Alien3), but I think I'm partial to 2 because I was ten when I first saw it and was scared to death.

Avatar is the best/worst movie of all time.

Blue cat people, penetrating animals to fly, unobtanium, hammy Native American analogy, 5 sequels filmed at once...

When a movie is made solely on bad decisions...

...man is it fun to watch.

I pretty much agree, based on the stuff I've seen.

His brother was a shite Prime Minister, too.  😉

It's basically Pocahontas with blue people and spaceships anyway.

I was speaking to someone down the nuclear sub yesterday, and we simply agreed that David Lynch is fucking with us. We clinked our glasses, said cheers and enjoyed our beverages.
