Wait - same song from the bug/lizard/mouth girl?  I was too busy waiting for her to kill coop to notice.

No way he's bad there's 2 of her she's a sneaky b - she's got the jadoway in her.

that face smushing was bad news, she changed something.

Not bad but a hybrid

(this is an adult forum right?)

There was a wee bit of a BDSM vibe to that sex scene. Just a tad.

When they crossed the dimension, it messed up their minds, Diane thought she was Linda. When she was having sex she thought she was having sex with Richard, her lover in this dimension judy created. But her subconscious recalled still her rape by Evil Coop, and she was having flashes of that Rape while having sex, not fully understand what's going on. In the next morning she left because something felt deeply wrong about that. Since Cooper and EvilCoop share the same face, her subconscious thought she was reliving sex with the man who once raped her. So she couldn't stand to look at his face, even though this time she was having consensual sex

My take was that during the sex she was becoming Linda, but he wasn't becoming Richard. So he became increasingly unfamiliar to her and she couldn't look at him.

I'm at about the same place.  They were already becoming strangers to one another. They were continuing to play out the role, but without true feelings or knowing exactly why.

The shot of a second Diane at the motel indicated that she was becoming disassociated from her identity.  She was literally looking at herself from a distance without recognition.  She wasn't able to hold onto herself as well as Dale did.

By my interpretive standards, that scene is the epitome of Twin Peaks. Desire, identity, M/F, perverse nostalgia, radical ambiguity, pain, pleasure and failure... THAT is Maximum Lynch.

In the motel Diane was doing all the work while Cooper was clearly uninvolved.  Even Zombie Dougie, who wasn’t connected enough to his environment to open a door, was able to respond to sex – flapping his arms and smiling.  Diane is like the audience working to find meaning where there is none.

Because she is Linda and Richard looks like a dreamer. He doesn't do nothing but only watching. He just watch as passanger of sex, even Dougie have reaction on face. Richard have no reaction at all. Same as watching in background in ep17. It looks totally unreal. He doesn't even react when she puts hands on his face. If it would be real, he could have problem with breathing after that and react. Ask her to take off hands..

Kudos for still trying to make sense of anything!!!

I'm not sure we can blame Diane for this mess, to be honest. But I will tell you that the face smooshing made me think of Naido's eyes.

For some reason, Diane can't "face" him while they are making love. Something is "wrong." There are undercurrents of the episode 8 where you've got the two kids in love and it's all sweet, but horrible things are going on, even while that same song "My Prayer" is playing.

It was a total mindf**k and I don't know whether to admire it or slap Lynch. The conversation could certainly get lively once the shock wears off.

The fact that "My Prayer" is used in both scenes seems really important to me.  Need a rewatch for sure.  It's certainly contrasting sweetness with strangeness or horror.  The face covering and all the events before and after are related to identity.  But I'm trying to figure out if the events at the radio station tie in to or parallel the events in the hotel room at all.

No answers, just more questions!
