The original Twin Peaks was originally about answering the big question: who killed laura palmer.
What is this Twin Peaks about?
In episode 2 of the original, in the red room, Laura bent down, kissed Cooper, and whispered the name of her killer in his ear. Coop couldn't remember at first. But then he remembered: "My father killed me."
In this Twin Peaks, episode 2, there's a reprise of that scene. 25 years later, Laura bends down, kisses Cooper, and whispers something in his ear. In response, Cooper's face looks worried, scared, confused.
"My mother . . . ."
Everything we heard about the murder, all wrong. The time signatures, the places and everything. impossible to solve the mystery, it's locked. you can go and research. the books, the series and the movie. in all every detail of laura palmer's murder gets darker, like into the void. because why we are after 25 years? as we all know her father did and then in the lodge why he asked to coop find laura. by the way in the lodge there must be too many dopplegangers.
Or... maybe we'll learn that Laura's murder was really that of her doppelganger... and that the real Laura has always been trapped in the lodge because nobody put that green ring on the finger to send the doppelganger back, exchanging it for the real Laura.

Very interesting thread you started over there. I'm going to chime in.
Here, I'm going to limit myself to suggesting that Laura's mother is going to play an important role in the finale, just as Laura's father played a key role in the original. The fact that Laura's father harbored unspeakable evil, the suspicion that Laura's mother might harbor yet unspeakabler evil, in addition to providing narrative form and parallelism, sends a bleak message about the world we have inherited from our mothers and our fathers, and the genetic nature of the evil in our natures and in our cultures. There is so much "mother" and "father" in Twin Peaks, along with the sense that we are not even the dreamer in this dream world of ours --that the dream precedes us and has been going on for generations, and we're born into it, forced to reckon best we can.
Going back to the OP: The big question of the original run was, "Who killed Laura Palmer?". I'd say this season's big question is "Why was Laura Palmer killed?". This season has shown us that there is some greater cosmic purpose rather than a few rogue, local spirits terrorizing a certain place. So, what is the reason...?

That's why my - answers? - questions? - in the "Which Five Questions" thread (the one where all the answers are questions - sort of like Twin Peaks itself ;-)) in Part 16 were:
1) What are the Black and White Lodges?
2) How long have they been interacting with human beings?
3) Are they the arbiters of all good and evil?
4) Who created them?
5) Who are the Fireman and Senorita Dido?
I hope for at least a hint at the answers to these questions, buuutttt.... 😉

That clip also underlines what is made clear in the credits: that it's Phillip Gerard we've been seeing, not MIKE with his deep reverb voice and histrionic way of expressing himself. Doesn't make sense to me why a mere "human host" would seem to wield so much power in the lodges, just as it doesn't make sense to me why the Dougie tulpa should be wearing the ring -- two things that strike more as involuntary inconsistency than anything deliberate, but lynch only knows . ..
The Dougie tupla was to replace bad Coop in the lodge thus he was wearing the ring and why they were trying to kill him. Die with the ring on and that's it......
