What year do you think Cooper thought it was? What year do you think it actually was? And why does it matter?

They drive to Twin Peaks in what appeared to be a late model car. So it seems like the question should have been "what universe is this?"

According to some online sleuths - the population sign of Odessa, TX corresponds to the Population there in 2008

Those scenes in the red room that seemed to be re-playing....what if we had seen them out of order.  Or there's no time there - past or future?  Laura gets whisked away, Cooper goes back out, who knows how Diane knew how to meet him there.....But maybe it occurred to Dale that he didn't know how long he'd been in there.  Or how long he'd been trying to save Laura.  Someone noted that the inside of the hotel and the outside may have been two different time-lines.  I don't think we have enough information to figure this stuff out, but he seemed tired, determined and soul-sucked before he got to the point of saying, "What year is this".  Poor guy!

isnt it Kyle who said we should wait until the end before we can understand how great the show is? Until part 17 I thought so, but the rest seems like a mix between 'hey we need fans to call for a new season and a new cliffhanger!' and just pure trolling. Hmm. Where did he see anything in the script that we missed?

If it is true that the car Coop was driving was a 1966ish, then perhaps Coop remembered that it might be the past, not the future. And that house could have been owned by the Tremonds before the Palmers. The Tremonds are lodge spirits, so perhaps that is how the Palmers got so spiritually abused. Did we ever learn how long the Palmers were in that house?

Ah, yes, maybe Carrie is the gold orb sent after the Trinity scene. Maybe she then became Laura later. But what's the point? I mean that's not the story we were being told... it doesn't matter. Nothing matters, we'll forget everything when we wake up. Did yourself out of the dream!

Hey maybe we're in the future, and Charlie is a used book store keeper who fell in love with Audrey and bought her when she got ambered, hoping she'll disregard his height and see him as her Savior.

(Fringe S05E01, for the curious. :-P)

The "what year is it" was such an intriguing call back to Phillip Jeffries in FWWM.  Sad too though.  Is Cooper on his way to being lost forever?
I hope he's got enough Cooper mojo to not end up on the same path.

Also to support this there's a story on the back page of the newspaper the old lady is reading in "Judy's" Diner. It's about the construction of the Notrees (Odessa) wind turbine farm. Started in June  of 2008
