I agree with many people on this forum that there is compelling evidence to suggest Lynch will end the series with 3 seasons. That being said, although art is "art for art's sake", we should all remember that the works of Michelangelo were commissioned
Well said. Being an artist isn't incompatible with commercial incentive - which we could also just call "opportunity." If a network/platform makes an attractive offer for more Twin Peaks and there's an audience for it, is Lynch compelled to turn up his nose because "his vision is complete" and "he must be true to his art?" If he's sick of doing it or really has no more ideas, that would be one thing. But I'm guessing Lynch has no shortage of ideas that could become more Twin Peaks if the circumstances were right.
I have absolutely no clue if the show will be back, but I think people are being a little quick to put words in Lynch's mouth about how it simply must end here because of some high-flown assumptions we're all making about his commitment to artistic purity. Hell, for all we know he had an awesome nightmare last night and there was 12 more hours of material in it. 😉
I think the most attractive offer they could make would be to let him have creative control again and do it the way he wants with no interference. I'm going to be really curious to see how this played out with Showtime in the next few months. I hoping all the chaos after the finale doesn't give him TV show fatigue, but I would expect that and expect everyone would need a pretty big break.
I also didn't realize that the guy who fought for them to be on ABC back in the day was working with Showtime now. I think he needs big kudos for us being able to watch ANY Twin Peaks at any point in time.
I'd root less for a film and more for something like a 6-part TV series
I agree, a mini-series/long movie would be the best option.
I wonder--if Lynch DID end it exactly as he wanted to.
It looks to me like he left the road open. But I guess he always does.
