The overlay sync video that was uploaded above made me go nuts! I have to watch it again - unfortunately it got deleted from youtube before I was able to download it.
If anyone out there has an idea where to find this masterpiece, PLEASE let me know. I am really desperate. Seeing how stuff matched up was absolutely astonishing to me and I am gutted that I wasn't able to save it...
Thank you - much appreciated!!!
I really can't overstate how much better it is to watch these on two separate screens with two separate sound sources; combining the picture and sound destroys the experience imo and all you're left with is the information.

I get it. But I'd love trying to watch it both ways.
Interesting with the overlap was to see the positioning of Cooper in the final scene where he moves strangely and that perfectly matches the part of the frame where Sarah removes Lauras photo... Even Lauras positioning over the Sarah-hits-photo moment seems planned.
I really cant wrap my head around this, dont even know what I think myself. Surely Lynch has not planned that stuff to happen and edit it like that? ...but then again, who knows?!
When Lynch came to Brisbane he told us it took him and Mark four years to write The Return! That's a hell of a long time, even for eighteen episodes...
No, his exec producer said yesterday that it wasn't intended to be watched this way, and that she'd never heard of that before.

That'd explain why Lynch said it was an 'awkward question' when Moby asked him about new TV projects in a panel in 2014. 😉

We've gone over this in another thread started by RocksEm http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/discuss/twin-peaks-part-17-part-18/exec-producer-for-twin-peaks-debunks-the-sync-theory/
In short; executive producers are people who ensure that the talent and the suits both get what they want; they don't necessarily have anything to do with the technical aspects. Sabrina is clearly extremely good at what she does, she's working in a dream time here, but that doesn't mean she needed to know about Lynch's plans for the edit. Lynch is notorious for keeping things a secret even from cast and crew so as to minimise the likelihood of any spoilers making it out.
I am totally convinced that this 17/18 sync theory is right having watched it lots of times now. There are too many "sync points" to be a coincidence. Lots are mentioned in this thread already.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned (but what I thought was odd) when 18 started was the repeat from the end of 17 of the scene in the wood where Cooper leads Laura by the hand, then she disappears. When I first watched 18, this repeat seemed unnecessary as we'd just seen this scene, but when you watch the episodes simultaneously, it all works and makes complete sense. Top stuff.
Personally, I prefer the overlay to the side-by-side or over-under. I think it's a matter of preference.
You're right James, a lot of people are saying they prefer the overlay too. Whatever gives people the most enjoyment is what they should do 🙂
