Laura had become part of the truck driver reality. She forgot herself, or in that timeline succumbed to BOB when she wasn't killed. There was quite a bit of the lamb to slaughter (or turkey) in FWWM.

Her scream--remembering--is in that sense a redemption of the character who had become corrupted.

Also, S3 started out as a horror film, with the young lovers slaughtered by a monster. So it makes sense to end it like a horror film as well.

Nice, this also solves the meaning of the turkey jerky, since in FWWM Laura said she was 'dumb like a turkey' to James and began to cry.....Sarah Palmer(who killed a truck driver and hated the new turkey jerky) smashed Laura's picture when Agent Cooper saved her 'factually' and erased the problems, so she was stuck like that, blaming herself for the 'world of truck drivers', etc., problems bubbling under, still thinking she was 'dumb like a turkey' and accepting world/life, 'sleepwalking' in Odessa, Texas....

Dude it sent a shiver down my spine when I heard that! It's actually Sarah that shouts it. It's a sound bite from the first episode in the original TP when Sarah calls to laura for breakfast. Given it's Sarah shouting and we've all seen what's inside Sarah made me want to scream too.

Just re-watched it and came on to post the same thing. It looks really similar. Like a time barrier. When you pass through it it bends time in some way. Hence, "What year is it?"
Is it future or is it past? Seems to depend on where you are at certain times in precise locations.

I am quite sure he tries to feel the red curtain with his hand. He does the exact same gesture back at the end of season 2 when he enters the Black Lodge and also in season 3 when he exits it before meeting Diane...

well, I've watched the season 3 Red Room/Black Lodge exit and meeting Diane several times now - I don't see any gesture--.  - I haven't fished through to find the season 2 moment you mention, but so far, I'm not seeing anything in this "What year is this?" moment except him suddenly being struck with a thought.
