After watching the ending at least 10 times I have come to the conclusion that this is edited not in a linear time frame and each episode is moved around to obviously misdirect us. I think through all the episodes we can see when in twin peaks time is linear but when in the lodges this allows time to be constructed how time is meant to be perceived if we have full control of it. There is no here or now but a mission one person has been sent on to realise that saving Laura palmer was the wrong thing to do........ she needed to die. Because if she had not then then there would be no resistance against Judy. The filming was as such that cooper knew what he had done by saving her and knew that he must awaken her to realise her destiny that she must be killed. That's why I think at the end of FWWM that is the true end to the series and the whole series was in reverse because cooper knew what he had to do......... Laura's last words when the credits rolled were in my eyes...... find me and let history repeat itself as she needed to be killed, hence the angel at the end of FWWM..... that's just my theory anyway ..... feel free to destroy ?
That's interesting and even makes sense to why she looks so happy in the final scene of FWWM. They repaired Dale's error and have restored the balance to TW.
Hm, I see it the other way. The only way to stop Judy (who I think was growing in Sarah Palmer) is through Laura, the counterpoint to Sarah, but she is killed by the rogue card, BOB, despite Cooper's attempts to tell her not to put on the ring (so she doesn't die, and possibly being possessed by BOB, as something perhaps bigger than BOB, could take Judy/Sarah through BOB). The fact she's dead means nothing stops Judy's routes into the world.
I see The Return being a reveal that Cooper's not been looking to save Laura since he entered the Lodge, but to keep Laura alive to face Sarah/Judy. So not so happy an ending... though nothing to say FWWM's ending couldn't be the final end if they did in the future win. 🙂
If FWWM is the ending then we'll never know "How's Annie?"
Seriously, in a way I think you're right. Lynch wanted to show the end result in FWWM because he wasn't sure he'd ever get to show any more, even 25 years later.
Both valid points ? I've just watched it over and over again and I just think that if you have over 25 years to think of a story in your head then he must of known what he was doing...... this guy had full creative control over everything and this is most noteably the best TV I have witnessed. No matter what theory's we have I think we can all agree that we have taken something from this, hence we are even debating it. Art at it's finest and one of the most enjoyable things I have seen. I still think FWWM is the end to the story though..... my personal feeling on it ?
