A few years after the events of the season 2 finale, Mr. C visits Diane, rapes her, and takes her to the convenience store.
At that point, he makes a tulpa of her, playing a long game because he'll need her as a mole in the FBI later.
He then puts the real Diane into the eyeless body of an Asian woman who can't speak, and she hangs out inside a light-purple-hued room for awhile.
Do I have that right?

Um.......maybe? Hell if I know anymore.

I think the mauve room was the place of "non-existance". She was not intended to ever escape. Not was Dale. Dale escaped because Naido got him to the room he could escape through.
All of this could have been planned ahead by Dale and Diane.

Not sure what I make of the retconning that went on in the last two parts.
Diane goes from being a, well, let's face it, secretary who took dictation from FBI Agent Dale Cooper, to now being his partner-in-heroism and long-term planning, as well as having been his lover. That's... a lot to swallow.
Also, I found it interesting how Dale seemed to recognize her the moment he saw the Naido facade, but when he saw Naido in the mauve room in Part 3, there didn't seem to be any recognition. Naido had to fight to get his attention.
I don't think she was "placed into the body of an Asian woman." I think she was placed inside a disguised form and hidden in the Mauve Room. An Asian actress just happened to play the part. The disguise could have looked like anyone.

Er, yes... but the way it happened was, an Asian actress was cast in the role, so Diane's character was, in fact, placed (or "hidden" if you prefer) inside the body of an Asian woman.
That aspect would seem to be indisputable. To do so would be like saying, 'Luke Skywalker wasn't caucasian. A caucasian actor just happened to play the part.'
I also thought it strange that all the sudden Dale & Diane are lovers. He was in love with Annie last, and Caroline before Annie. His line in the original series about wanting to make love with someone that he has a genuine affection for implies that he's not romantic with Diane. But also I was happy to see them in love.

As "Tulpa" is a thoughtform, is originated from Tibetan mythology, an extra body created from one person's spiritual or mental powers.
We never saw Diane in the first two seasons, but this season she is in East Asian styles constantly, maybe spiritually she is partially Asian, which is why she was in the Asian human form.
Just guessing.

My point is that it was not a slight to Asian actresses. As seems to be the knee jerk reaction.

Yeah this I didn't buy. Considering he was so involved with Diane he fell for Annie easily. This sort of thing bugs me more than a confusing ending.
I always thought Naido was a reminder of the Japanese victims of the Bomb and specifically those whose eyes melted after looking into the fireball.
