Hi there!
Like everyone here, I'm was thinking a lot about Twin Peaks. One of my favorite things in this season was Chromatics. I really like the band and the music of Johnny Jewel.
As a non english native speaker, I don't use to pay full attention of the lyrics in english (of course I do, but I'm not conscious all the time), and today I was listening "Shadow" by Chromatics and I realized the song is about the last episode, especially the second part of the song. I think it described when Cooper (Richard?) took Laura (Carrie Page) to Twin Peaks. The song say that they are just a stranger's dream (who's the dreamer?).
And when they sing about "the picture from the frame" it talks when Sarah took Laura's picture.
At night I'm driving in your car
Pretending that we'll leave this town
We're watching all the street lights fade
And now you're just a stranger's dream
I took your picture from the frame
And now you're nothing like you seem
Your shadow fell like last night's rain
For the last time
For the last time
For the last time
For the last time
Probably I've overanalyzed every detail in Twin Peaks The Return, but it's great to thing that the finale has been described by the first song played at Roadhouse! (Don't forget one member of the band got the Owl cave ring!)
For me, a lot of things in Twin Peaks are cyclical, and this is one more of them.
Very cool ! I think there is a meaning in every song in the return. I'm also a non english native speaker so i haven't paid attention to those songs but it's worth to find out 😉

I thought most of the lyrics were about Audrey but I will have to listen to them again to see how they fit with what happened at the end now.
This song was written and recorded before Lynch even knew about Chromatics. Lynch's sound assistant Dean Hurley heard it and presented it to David after being asked for potential artists to play in the Roadhouse. I agree that the lyrics are very close to the bone, but it seems that was maybe just another reason why Lynch felt it was a perfect fit. It's likely that The Return was already written in full by the time he heard the song.

Yes! I read about that in a interview to Johnny Jewel in Consequence of Sound website. I think is just a perfect match between the lyrics and the world of Twin Peaks, what does not stop surprising me about David Lynch music elections 🙂
