so I've seen a bunch of videos on YouTube that show various episodes simultaneously playing side by side.
Theres even one that shows all 18 episodes at the same time.
now I'm not sure if there's anything to doing that? but has anyone done, or knows of a video that has tried to edit all the scenes into chronological order? I think if someone did that it might make the whole thing a bit easier to then comment on? I don't have the technology or patience to do it, but any thoughts on it would be appreciated
Who knows what the chronological order is? Except for the dated parts in Episode 8, all the others may be in order, allowing that some may be happening at the same time as others.
It will be interesting to get our hands on the original script and see how much Lynch deviated/changed/cut-out while filming and editing. Doubtful that he deviated/rewrote as much as in the season 2 finale (because he was involved in the writing this time) but . . . We won't know until we read the script (or get some 'missing pieces').

Fixed it for yer. 😉
Yeah it's going to be a tricky one, but somebody will be up to the challenge?
there are a few moments that don't fit right and can only make sense once you change them around, like "Douggie" in the yard plying ball then Sunny Jim's play gym in the yard are actually shown the other way round.
i think once the bulk of it is sorted the other scenes should fall into place?
I don't know that seeing things in chronological order will add any clarity. Seems to me that no one would agree on a chronological order anyway.

I try to imagine to what was looking the filming chart, the end of The Return was filmed on the first weeks.
And above all, the editing board with the 18 parts, with a bunch of sliced bits with color lines everywhere on all the walls of a closed down bus station.
What reason do we have to believe that anything is not in chronological order as it's shown, beyond the things labeled as such (i.e. from 1945/1956, or the flashbacks from FWWM)?
This is a timeline made by a guy on Reddit, but he stopped after part 15
The image is HUGE (click for the smaller version : 10400 x 7000 px and 27,7 Mo ! )

Man! That was one hell of a lot of work!
You have to admire the incredible industry of some fans. =:-O
Thanks for linking to this. 😉

I feel like the show generally was shown in chronological order, but because 18 parts only covered a few days there's a good deal of overlap that makes it feel like things are out of order. For example, a scene in Las Vegas in part 10 may be happening at the same time as a scene in Twin Peaks in part 12. It's not out of order, necessarily, but the pace in one location may have been sometimes out of phase with the pace in the other locations. As one locale is on screen, time in the others is standing still, so one place can run ahead, then pause, then the other locale takes the screen and time starts moving for them.
I don't understand what I did with the Reddit link.
It seems that the big image (27,7 Mo) is downloaded here in the topic, and I can't edit my message anymore.
Really sorry if you are reading the message on a cell phone or with a limited speed connection.

That's a really good point

Hi Greg! I've tried to do so, and some other edits, you can see all of it on my little blog: http://tp3theories.canalblog.com/
Well, I am passionate about editing, screenwriting, and of course Twin Peaks. So, I did those edits as a research, an experiment. As SamXtherapy said, who knows what the chronological order is? The show is perfect as it is. My attempt on chronology is just a way to investigate the script of this season, but the only sure fact I've found is that time is really subjective in Season 3, and particularly in Twin Peaks (time moves more clearly outside, in Las Vegas, Buckhorn, and elsewhere). So, those researchs are a moving thing (just like Hawk map).
I've also done edits by storylines (Dougie-Dale movies, Mister C. movies, Twin Peaks movies).
I hope you'll enjoy it! Once again, it's just a study. Nothing can replace the brillant new show Mark Frost and David Lynch offered us.
