In Season 2, there was the scene in the red room of Laura screaming and moving back and forth over the arm of a chair(s) that was shaped like, yep, you remember: a figure 8 infinity loop. I can't believe Lynch was planting seeds so early on.

My favorite scene. I love when he says Dop-pel-gang-ger! And thanks for saying a figure 8 and not an Infinity symbol, which it isn't.

As far as the love seat it's  flat at 2 points so it's more like 2 Ds end to end than an 8. But it may just be a doppelganger of the real love seat that is 8 shaped. 🙂

Wow. Didn't notice that but it's been a while since I watched the first two seasons. That scene is probably the scariest throughout the whole series simply because Sheryl Lee manages to deliver a scream that turns my blood into ice and gives me shivers. She's wonderful.

I mean, a sideways 8 is an infinity symbol.

That scene is really creepy.  I know her scream is supposed to scare me, but all I keep thinking is that she must be blowing out her vocal cords.

I recall being really shaken after watching that episode when it aired... I recall saying to someone after that it was the scariest hour of network television ever made. Still is pretty powerful even after all these years.

I don't think that chair is supposed to be an 8 or an infinity symbol, but instead it's essentially a "mirror" seat, right? If two people sit in it, they face away from each other. Or... two of the same person.

But isn't that scene Laura's doppleganger and not actually Laura as we know her?

I forget the term for that type of chair, but they were popular around Victorian times as a seat that a courting but unmarried couple could occupy. You could have the intimacy of sitting "next to" one another, but were separated by a barrier and having backs to one another so as to preserve chastity.

Seems like a chair rife with symbolism for the season 2 finale. First, the closeness but forced separation of Dale and Annie, while simultaneously mocking Dale's lack of chastity in the whole situation with Windom Earle and Caroline. Further, two haves of a whole, forced separate (Dale and his doppelganger).

Wyndam Earls face appears while she is sreaming.  Is he inside Laura/Lauras doppelganger?

Yes i noticed that too last night, Windom is still there in someways and BOB fired him so get the control and later Evil Coop comes and they laughed maniacly together so they have Windom' s under control in Doppelgangers imo...
