Another question: how long has Coop been in a relationship with Diane? Before he disappeared for 25 years in the Black Lodge, he was with Annie. So was he seeing Diane at the time? Or did he break up with Diane, fell in love with Annie and then fell in love with Diane again?
Maybe Hutch and Chantal are cypher for the part of Coop's mind that is into open relationships.
This entire season is just a mash up of stories that went nowhere, and that's what I dislike the most. The only plotline that did somehow resolve was the Dougie plotline. With a happy ending and all. And to be honest, the Dougie plotline, how hard it was to watch in the beginning, is the one that I liked the most in the end. Probably just because of the happy ending. And also because the Tarantino-esque shootout outside Dougie's villa. I really liked that.
But here's some other unresolved things, or things that went nowhere:
1: We never got an answer to how Dougie's ring ended up inside Major Briggs body. Nor if Janey-E really was Diane's half sister.
2: Jack Rabbit's Palace. Did I get this completely wrong? Wasn't Sheriff Truman & Co suppose to visit that place at two separate occasions? We only got to see the first time the went there. We will never know if they ever will go there a second time. IF they do, what will they find and what will happen?
3: Agree about Naido. Andy said that men were after her, that she needed to be protected and that she was important. Was Mr C after her? She seemed to be freaking out when Mr C was in the Sheriff Station. But important? How? I thought she was gonna save the day, or something. She did nothing. She only turned into Diane and then... Well, all that weird stuff happened.
4: Junkie Mom (119) and her kid. For some reason, I had hoped for them to turn up in the Red Room in the end. I thought that maybe they had some sort of connection to this other worldly stuff. Or that the Junkie Mom was gonna be the one who opened the door when Cooper and Carrie rang the door bell at Sarah Palmer's house.
I agree. It was fun to watch, and I enjoyed the ride, but so much of it reads like a first draft. A lot of the production felt a little sloppy too, like they only filmed one or two takes, then moved onto the next thing. It seems like there are a few places where actors flub their lines but they just keep rolling. And scene-by-scene continuity was all over the place.
Perhaps from a production POV they were aiming for something more like a watercolour painting, or a stream-of-consciousness experiment in the same way INLAND EMPIRE was made: create sequences intuitively, then move onto the next one. Work out what it all means later.
Despite the problems I mentioned above, there were a number of individual scenes that were done really well if you think of them as standalone pieces. Just they didn't connect overall as a narrative.
But as some kind of video-watercolour painting filler with various triggers it works well.
The one thing that bugs me is the Judy is mother is Sarah Palmer is the frogbug girl thing. It is possible but I don't think any of that has been confirmed either way in the show, yet already I see it being thrown around on forums and now international news sites as gospel. When there is finally a reveal, like Audrey is dreaming, Richard is Audrey's son, Blonde Diane is a tulpa or Naido is Red Hair Diane they actually make a point to state it really clearly for us. They told us Judy is an extremely evil force or whatever, behind the door was a monster the girl referred to as mother, there was a frogbug thing that crawled into a girls mouth, and Sarah Palmer is messed up, maybe some of the fan theories are true but they still haven't confirmed what any of those really are yet. Any connections have just been made in the minds of viewers and posted online, yet a few days later you see them quoted in articles as fact. It's been a real insight into the way modern media coverage works, from reddit to small blogs to small publications to the majors.
I am shocked with your perspective and rather flat summaries (and generally the frustration lots of u are feeling for the finale). I feel as if I was watching a different show from all u guys. Uve never watched a lynch film? If u have why are you freaking out? If you havent, why havent u and instead expect him to direct the way he did 25 years ago (even then, if u watch the 6 or 7 of the 30 Twin Peaks episodes he directed the lynch signature is clear).
I ve also critiqued Lynch on reddit but for all the opposite reasons than u: for S3's plot becoming cheesy/frostean at points. I cannot describe my joy when I finally saw in the last episode what I expected to see on this series, at its best.
Agree with the OP about Reddit. It's a great place to read theories, but you can't say anything negative about David Lynch.
I've been called stupid several times today in different websites. Only because I didn't like the finale. I didn't expect this kind of fanatism about a Lynch work, specially since I'm not attacking anyone's opinions. You liked it? Good. I didn't.
ur tone is irritating (too many mah's and an unwillingness to engage with whatever u saw, only make lists of flat points that leave no space for discussion, only for agreeing sympathisers), perhaps this is the reason people are putting u in the corner. Your way of writing is discouraging. U sound like someone who wouldn't consider any other reading than whatever your own narrowed one suggests. U r not open (i think u want to start arguments).
I enjoyed the whole journey, and found these unresolved plots to be interesting insights into these peoples' lives... Personally I like that they were left open, I find it to be more powerful that way and reflective of life in general.
Regarding Jack Rabbits Palace, and the portal there, yes the message from Major Briggs indicated two dates. Clearly Hawk et al did not feel the need to return a second time. Had they of done so perhaps they'd have met Mr C there.
I agree completely with the OP. It seems like most people who are unhappy are pissed about the finale. I just found the finale a bit boring, but it's not my major issue. I'm pissed about the entire season for all of these reasons you've listed and more. All of these plot threads went absolutely nowhere, and we spend how long watching them drive in the finale? We spent how long watching mediocre bands (sorry if you're a fan) play at the end of nearly EVERY episode? There was plenty of time to tell a more complete story.
Did I find the season compelling? I must have, or I wouldn't still be here discussing it. Could it have been better? HELL YES.
