not saying this IS the case, but maybe... David Lynch loaded the final ep. of original TP with cliff-hangers to encourage people to pressure the suits not to cancel the show, and this new show leaves a lot of them dangling. Reportedly Showtime said they'd be happy to do more TP, so whether that's what David wants or not we shall see.

Let's hope.

Another series or film if the fan vibes are positive and Showtime had adequate $ from TR.  I assume Final Dossier sales could be a telling sign of interest and curiosity for any suits.

The books are Mark Frost's project, and David Lynch basically said the new show is not tied to SHOTP book.

twin peaks is as much mark frosts town as it is david lynchs. without one of them there would not have been any twin peaks

So, you don't believe that sales of a Twin Peaks-focused publication could be a useful indicator for any media executive interested in funding another Twin Peaks film or series?  I could have said the various products that Showtime is selling directly.

Without David, it would not have been the cult hit it is growing over the decades. No Bob, no Mike & the Arm, no Black Lodge, etc. Mark Frost is talented and the show could have been interesting, but not the same show.

just saying that mark frosts books are just as relevant to twin peaks as is the show. you cant say they are not canon if they come from the creator himself

Asked if the show is tied to the book: "That's Mark Frost's version of Twin Peaks." - David Lynch
Compare the book with the new show ( & even the original ), things do not line up the same.

The fact that the books are Frost's work and Lynch had nothing to do with them does not mean that Frost will do the hell he wants with them. He would still follow the plot of the three seasons and expand on that. I don't think he will make up stuff that does not tie with the series or with what he worked on together with Lynch.

People noticed the first book doesn't line up with what we know about TP ( original show ).

and yet it introduced harrys brother.

and many of the "mistakes" in the book are discussed as being planted there on purpose

Are theorized to be you mean. They co-wrote the script, there were ideas they agreed on doing.

A thread started about the potential for future films/series to address cliffhangers has descended into the entirely predictable and oft-repeated conversation on this board about the books.  Sorry I mentioned it, since it is clearly a trigger.

Karen, if your first post in this thread is right, I hope they haven't shot themselves in the foot.  I can imagine a lot of people saying "Fuck Twin Peaks" after the last episode.  I'm not convinced there are enough diehards to make another series worthwhile.
