Ya the drunk somehow vanishes right around the time Andy gets everyone out of the jail.

The drunk does mimic Freddie one time.

Ok.  Can you tell me if this is 16 or 17?  And what did he say?

Ep. 17...8.42

F: ''no clue mate''

DG: ''no clue mate'

And the drunk guy is in cell 5, which we never get a clear view of, as far as I can make out, after Chad loads the gun. The camera is skewed slightly to the right, which is towards Chad's cell (10) when Chad comes around the corner, then it is immediately right of our viewpoint/the camera's position while Andy is cuffing Chad, so we can't see it. The long shot down the line of cells when we see James and Freddie is the only possible one we could see drunk guy in long shot, but I think Freddie is blocking our view. He does only interact/mimic freddie/james once, but we hear him right up until Andy cuffs Chad, and then he doesn't get taken upstairs....

Thank you.  Didn't catch that one. But  no other mimicking of anyone aside from Chad and Naido?

So who is this guy?  Is he symbolic of the festering blight on TP that is Chad? Is he Chad's Karma? Did he come with Naido? Did he come because of Naido. I think we can put to rest the theories that he is Billy.

I don't really know who I think he is....he seems to have been in the cells for a while for a drunk, so who knows. He could still be Billy, or related to vomiting zombie girl from the car with the shout lady.

He did seem to get more agitated once mr c arrived/chad escaped, pulling of his dressing and picking at the abscess on his cheek, so maybe he is some sort of barometer for evil, but I have nothing concrete at all...

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone in this one. I was fully expecting a dozen people to school me on who they thought he was.  But I guess everybody is stumped.

I'm still more stumped about "Why James?"  🙂

Can't answer "Why James?" but the disappearing drunk fits right in with all the other discontinuities I glibly explained away in my "Dumb idea" thread.

Someone commented Lynch doesn't do meta; I contend these events aren't meta, in the traditional sense but even if I agreed they were, I could just as easily say "Well, Lynch doesn't do exposition, either but hey, what's that in Episode 17?"

Anyhow, long story short, and also helps with Coop's face over the scene in Truman's office...  Someone (possibly Coop), or something (possibly Mother) is altering reality and making stuff disappear, or unhappen or change in various ways.

I actually agree with Sam (I can't remember that happening too often, still got that horrible damn picture of some guy he claims was a musician long ago in my head, what was his name, Bowie something).  As I ponder it more and more, I am warming up to the idea Cooper is trying to remember what happen.

Why not James?

I'm more... disappointed... in the final scene we get for characters like Hawk and Albert. Just standing there in the sheriff's office. No heroics. They're just... there. And then the scene is over. And, like that, their last moments in Twin Peaks are done (well, definitely Albert's).

Normally I would roll with a "why NOT" response.  But I'm not ready to do that here.  Not yet. If we are going to say why not, why not Ed, why not Carl, why not Red, why not Stephen, why not Shelley, why not the little kid with the gun, why not the coroner Albert been crushin' on? WHY?

Why not Dr Amp and one of his Gold Shit-Digging Shovels?

I absolutely agree with you both.  I'm just not seeing how the drunk fits into it. He seems to be a separate issue. It seems only Chad can see or hear him. Plus, you all know perfectly well that he wouldn't have been left in that cell in that condition. At the very least, someone would have paused at his cell to say "you doin okay there buddy?"

Because Dr Amp is Lynch's commentary IMO, on, the internet warriors, bloggers and vloggers who talk a good fight but never get their hands dirty.

Besides which, he's a bit of a wanker, anyhow, right?

Exactly!  Why not Jacoby/Amp? He at least would have had a weapon and a better use for it than shoveling proverbial shit!

Brandy,

The lack of acknowledgement, other than Chad, is good evidence to your idea.  I think I remember saying or at least thinking after he came in, that dude should see a doctor then be placed in the drunk tank.  No one in his condition would be put in a small police station gen pop cell.  And as I pointed out many moons ago, we know they have isolation tanks, they put Leland in one during season 2.
