There were a number of scenes during the series which seemed to linger a little too long (that might just be my experience of course). At the time it just struck me as unusual that there appeared to be so many, but now reading about the sync theories could they also be routes in to synching other scenes? It was like the actors were counting to a certain number in their head before the scene cut...The synch from episode 1 (with again lingering extended shots during it) suggests some intentional editing and filming to achieve the outcome? Talking about scene re-ordering too, remember the Rabbits scenes in Inland Empire, they were out of sequence weren't they?
I think that I've found another one :
Open episodes 16 and 17, go to 31'35" and watch the 12 following minutes with Diane.
Until the tulpa turns to smoke and Jeffries-tea kettle spits steam like a boat.
I've just started watching them from the start now and my goodness, Mr C in episode 16 and Gordon in episode 17 both say "co-ordinates" at the same time...
Electricity comes up on 17 just as Richard gets electrocuted in 16
Hutch says "what's this here?" in episode 16 just as Mr C finds the entrance to the White Lodge in episode 17
The Polish accountant and Mr C are both shot at the same time
Cooper wakes up just as BOB is pulled out of Mr C by the Woodsmen
Then the part you pointed out. This one seems less linked than 17/18 and 8/18, syncronicities only seem to pop up every five minutes or so.. I don't feel so strongly about this one.
Can anyone posting syncs here state what episode and timestamps to look at or post videos backing up the syncs, please.
Until Lynch himself says it was not intentionally synced on places then it is still valid.
As I stated in the other thread, this isn't true. It's just the opposite given her status on this production. Until Lynch confirms the syncing, it isn't valid.
Lynch hasn't said that Twin Peaks has to be watched sideways in a tub of beans while smoking bleached mdf. Is that also 'still valid'?
Lynch himself overlayed a couple of scenes in TPTR so it's not a far-fetched theory, especially when they scenes line up - or do you just call them coincidence?
What do you think Lynch would say about coincidences?
I'd think he say it's a coincidence so that means it wasn't intended or planned. Do I call what David Lynch deliberately does a coincidence? No, if it was deliberate it isn't a coincidence.
RocksEm, two questions for you.
Why do you believe there is no audio for the Lynch/Frost Productions logo at the end of ep 18?
If you watched a side-by-side comparison, did you believe the following were simply coincidences or not actually in sync?
- 52:33 The cut to the Palmer living room (17) is in sync with the house door being closed (18).
- 54:28 Laura's scream (18) is in sync with the cut to black after Sarah smashes the photo (17).
- 54:34 The cut to black after Laura's scream (18) is in sync with the start of the scene with Cooper and Laura in the woods (17).
- 54:52 - The fade in of the drapes and music (17) is in sync with the fade out of the credits (18)
1. Because Lynch wanted it that way mainly. It could relate to whatever is happening with the blinking white in some letters in that logo on different episodes. The sounds could be part of that.
2. Yes, I watched side by side and overlay. The ending more than once. Do I believe they are just coincidences? No I don't believe so. I know so. The producer told me so. Even if she hadn't I would still think so. The main problem with that sequence and syncing? The yell of Laura you here in part 18 which prompts Carrie to screen is completely drowned out in the sync by the moaning from 17. Did you think David Lynch intended that?
Let me ask you a question. If Julie Cruise singing out the show was the ending David Lynch wanted why didn't he just put it at the end of Part 18? Would not have effected the sync you see earlier on by doing so.
I can't speak for Lynch.
I don't believe any other scenes 1-18 were synched, but do believe these final scenes were. Doesn't matter though. Whether those scenes are synched or not does not change my interperation of the ending or the series. My interpretation informed how I processed those scenes when I saw the synched version rather than gaining anything from a synched or overlaid version.
