Great theory David !
...We know Leland was posessed by Bob at a young age up at his grandfathers house on "pearl Lakes" In a dream from the little boy who threw matches at him. (The Grandson)...
Wow, David, that was quite a detailed and interesting stream of consciousness essay on how the events of The Return struck you, how you've processed them. A great read.
I've pulled out a passage where your description doesn't jibe with my recall from season one. You remember Leland saying it was a little boy who threw matches at him? My memory is that he said it was a man from the Robertson home next to his grandfather's who he saw several times, and who threw matches at him, asking if he'd like to play with fire. -- ?--
Thanks for writing out your take on the new series. As I said - very interesting!
Regardless Her Cry has Telekenetic Properties, ALL THE LIGHTS GO OUT, Indicating, (Laura though SAVED By Dale from ever Being Killed by Bob - Has Gone Through the Lodges / Black /White - and Carrie Page is now some kind of Reincarnated Version of Laura Palmer, Not a Tulpa like Diane or or A doppelganger like Evil Cooper, but like the GOOD cooper re-embodied through "Electricity" - Her heightened emotional state, obviously had some "Electrical consequences". My best Take on it all.
Good parallel between Dougie/Coop's remembering and Laura's both being triggered by electricity--in Dougie's a wall socket but in Laura's her telekinetic scream.
Yeah your response made me think perhaps the spirit form, does not age, because Bob is Bob as we know him in the Orb from episode 8 right at the beginning, My understanding was Leland was a Boy, and Bob came into him in a dream, perhaps Leland is Gifted like Laura, he could see bobs true form also, (Before he Was Possessed by him), He Carries the Wanted Poster into the station from the hotel recollecting Bob from his days as a youth, And Bob wouldn't age, his spirit form, Ill have to revisit the scene where he talks about pearl Lakes, I could have sworn as a Boy he describes, the grandson as being bob.

I haven't seen that episode for some time either, David - I'll try to dig it out and take a look. I'm not positive about my impression that Bob was a man from next door, but I have always thought that. Leland recognizes the face in the wanted poster as the match thrower, I do remember that, and maybe that's the main reason I thought he was talking about an adult. The unchanging Bob we've always seen, as he was in the original series, in the orb from The Experiment in this season, and his final appearance in ep. 17 of this season. - If you watch the Leland scene in season one before I have a chance, let us know what you find.
Some Have Theorized the boy is leland, before he got posessed, But they appear in the same Scene when he walks away from the "Date" that would have been Ronnete & Laura, Plus he's Always or most always with the grandma, THEY are black Lodge entities. Leland is not, She says "My SON is learnign Magic.." in one scene w Donna, So The Grandson is, The Spirit form of Bob, Bob's original host, I believe, because He describes Bob's actions to Laura in FWWM. He knows in REAL TIME what BOB is doing. The Inhabiting Spirits seem to come and go or rise and fall as it were, We see Bob Leave Leland and his hard Face turn to tears, We See Gerard as MIKE comes to the Forefront. Perhaps these entities can appear in spirit form when the Hosts are "Themselves"

Regarding The Boy, I've always thought the coolest thing about him is he looks like a young David Lynch.

Correct! And the hair was right, it's a great touch, a bit Hitchcockian in a way - David's image was part of the show's fabric in these polar opposite characters. 😎
