I am trying to get straight on what the different players were trying to accomplish.

1. Mike was trying to get Bob back into the lodge. His assistance to Dougie was for this purpose.

2. The Fireman was trying to neutralize Bob. His method was to get Bad Coop to the Sheriff's office where Freddie would green glove him to pieces.  It was Mike who ensured Bad Coop would be transported back to the Red Room (The Fireman was not involved in this part).

3. Cole, Cooper, Briggs,  and Jeffries goal was to do something about the negative force Jouday.

4. Jeffries as tea kettle spoke to Cooper as though Cooper was going to find Judy. He sent him to 1989 for this purpose. Cooper didn't correct him.

5. Cooper's mission appears to be to save Laura. I still don't understand where,  when, or how he got this idea, and if any of the other players were behind him regarding this mission.

6.  So was Cooper trying to save Laura so that Laura could neutralize Judy? Why else would he be taking her back to the Palmer home, which was a place of horrors, not a place of healing?

I realize much of the theorizing here has gone past these basic questions,  but I still don't get it.

I think you have summed it up quite well.

i would just add that I think Coop became obsessed with changing the fate of Laura in an unhealthy way?  And in the end that obsessiveness was a catalyst to him changing into the very unCoop character we saw at the end?  Or some suggest he never was the Coop from yesteryear..... that the true Coop was what we saw at the end.... a bit of Mr C, a bit of Dougie and a bit of our hero.  I think there is still a lot to think about!

He may have become obsessed, buy we never see that play out. That's why i keep believing it was based on something the Fireman told him about Laura's role. We never learn why she is "the one."
