Isn't the ending - love it or loathe it - maximum Lynch? And, therefore, it should not have been a surprise....Personally I loved it....the only expectation I had after waiting almost half my life for this series was: Pure Lynch Please! And that it what we got for 18 hour. I understand my friends who are frustrated by the ending - I respect their views. But, for me at least, the abstract ending is what Lynch is about (expect "The Straight Story" of course!). I look back at this quote of his from a 1997 interview: ""See what I love," explains Lynch, "is to sense more than what's in front of me...depths of things. And once that starts going, mysteries are felt and it pulls you and you're living in a word of abstractions. That's what I find really beautiful." Maximum Lynch and I am grateful for it.
Completely agree it was the Lynch ending that only he can get away with!
Agree completely. I think all the folks who hate the final episode are those who are into the storylines and details which in reality aren't at all important.... thinking incorrectly that they were meant to be figured out and resolved.

Nope. I love all the details and storylines but loved the ending. They are all important in some way - at this time, just to show that life goes on regardless - and may become part of the main story if the show ever returns.
Even if it never returns, I think it's an extremely good ending. A real "Haha Cooper, you got well and truly screwed over this time, some expert you are" kind of ending.
Yep, we all got Lynch'd good and proper. Considering his last film was Inland Empire I'm extra happy things turned out this way.

With no lube, or dinner, or even a kiss.
