What if it was Lynch's plan to fuck with us with the finale, smashing our dreams and expectations so it would be easier for us to let TP go?
If we got a two hour masterpiece we would surely be expecting a 4th season from Lynch. But right now most of us are so disappointed and upset that we really couldn't care less for another season.
I don't think Lynch cares so much about opinion that he'd sabotage a show's plot in order to avoid another season. He simple provided a mind **** in the way only he knows how. It doesn't necessarily make sense as a lot of it comes to him when sleeping or meditating anyway.
I love it personally, I woke up early to watch it and at work I've sat here spaced out like I took some drug at the weekend. Only a few films/shows have left me in stunned silence, and most of them are Lynch's. With a bit more time understanding will come.
Credit also to Showtime for giving Lynch & Frost the platform to do this. Given the risk element and ending it was ballsy all round (although not without some flaws, admittedly).

Or maybe Lynch is in fact a denizen of the black lodge and this was his epic plan to feast on all our garmonbozia..
As much as I'd love a season 4 to right the wrongs of 18's calamity- I think it would just be a frustrating journey through the alternate reality introduced in 18. We're just never going to get our Dale Cooper and our Twin Peaks again.

You never were going to get either of them back in the way you thought anyway because time has moved on. That's probably why he asks "What year is it?"
