In episode 6, golden light travels from the dead boy upwards beyond the electricity cables into the air. Carl sees this and says 'God'. Perhaps this life-energy is stored in the rows of batteries we see in the Fireman's domain. It is possible he drew from this supply of positive golden energy from the batteries to create the Laura sphere to send back to earth.
