Maybe this has already been discussed AGAIN since the finale, but I can't keep up with all these posts.
Remember how beautiful and happy Laura looked, with angels and Dale around her in FWWM closing scene? What happened to that? She appeared to have found White Lodge peace. I was never sure why Dale was with her there. I wonder now if that scene had a different meaning than the one we assumed.
It makes you wonder whether they haven't fiddled a bit too much with the original material.
I loved FWWM for that, it was the perfect ending, together with Cooper.
I mean, is there still a secret diary of Laura Palmer now or is it the official Instagram page of Carry Page? I miss books
When people demand that Lynch never has conclusive endings it always confuses me since the last Twin Peaks creation, FWWM, has a very beautiful and conclusive ending.
...as for the Return tampering too much with original material...I agree.
I liked the finale for the most part but what bothered me the most is that it didn't just turn the end of the season upside down...it turned EVERY season upside down and I'm just not if that's a good thing in the end.
Its nice to see them take the story in a new place but not when it has us questioning everywhere we've ever been as fans of the series.

The Final Dossier has some heavy lifting to do.
I've come to my own personal conclusion that continuity with prior work and even within The Return was knowingly disregarded and undermined by Frost and Lynch. I think each Twin Peaks iteration is largely its own story - with inspiration rather than guidance provided by earlier iterations.
I believe the end of FWWM was just one of those things that Lynch did that meant something in the moment, but clearly did not define how they approached The Return.
Perhaps the brilliance of Twin Peaks is the ability to convey a powerful and compelling story while disregarding logic to such an extent that continuity can be toyed with or even disregarded.

You got that right!
Im eager to see what it accomplishes but I'm just not sure what direction it can really go when the town of Twin Peaks isn't at the forefront anymore.
I wouldn't be too quick to judge; Frost and Lynch are fond of pulling the rug from under the viewers. There's no way of knowing what happened after the end of FWWM to change everything to the story we've seen in this series.
If my idea about someone or something retconning the whole of reality is correct, all bets are off anyhow. Nonexistent, as the Arm would say, and maybe that's the biggest clue of the series.
