The buzz from the season finale of Twin Peaks: The Return is still fresh and fans are dissecting, defending and praising the ending of the revival of David Lynch’s cult series that changed the landscape of television when it first aired in 1990.
Whoever wrote this article hasn't seen this forum, obviously 🙂
I'll see you again in 25 years.
So, season 4 in 2042.
Meanwhile...
I'm still processing the ending, and I'm willing to give myself some time to let it resolve as an 18 hour piece. For those who didn't like the ending, ask yourselves, "Did I enjoy the other 17 hours?" If the answer is yes, then I think you might want to give yourselves time to remember what you liked about the series as a whole. It is much more than 1 hour of television. To reduce your opinion to just the ending isn't the best way to enjoy any form of art or entertainment. While I wan't thrilled with the ending, I need to rewatch and reflect a bit.
I bet 30 million dollars on nobody giving more money to Lynch ever.
But bear in mind that people who gave money to Lynch haven't see the finale yesterday or haven't been left mindblown. They were aware way before us where it all is heading... Yet they gave their money:)
And back to the topic I got this funny feeling that is not Lynch teasing and trolling us (cause it's quite obvious. Expect the unexpected) but... Kyle! That was Kyle who said in interview BEFORE The Return premiere that he sees the possibility of season 4, that was Kyle who said around ep 8-10 that"it will all make sense". Well guess what Kyle... The master and the adept issue?
I'm pretty sure a fourth has been in works, even if it's just in the heads of Lynch & Frost fir now

If you happen to get the 30 millions, you can finance season 4.

Agree 100%. That doesn't mean it's ever going to happen. But that ending -- and the lines about wanting to see everyone again -- means A) there's more story to tell and B) that Lynch and Frost are open to returning to that place and those characters.
The issue, of course, is when...the cast isn't getting any younger.
If I had to place a bet, I'd put it on YES...but not in an 18-hour format. It hasn't been a ratings smash for Showtime, but networks also do things for awards and prestige. My gut says that if Lynch and Frost can come with something less expensive and maybe smaller-scale... that could get things moving. But will they want to, especially given their public budget battle over season 3?
I think everything we've seen in this season just screams a second season. It's written all over it. Why else would they have done it this way? It's not a nice way to treat his fans. Well, some of them, that is.
However, I personally hope that if there ever is a new season, that someone else gets onboard the project, together with DL and Mark Frost. It's not wise to let DL alone hold the magic wand. I think he's getting a bit old. He's losing it. He needs someone who can speed up the tempo. Someone who can help him make TV show made for this decade, and to make it mainstream. I would love for Twin Peaks to be on everybody's lips again. Not just for us fans.
Ah, the title of this thread seems a bit confusing. I'm not too sure what else the official statement would be?
This was always promoted as a stand-alone project. Why would anyone immediately expect some definitive announcement on another series?
I'm sure if there's more to come, it will appear. But I really can't see if featuring in all the will it/ won't it be renewed gossip columns... 🙂
Why would they make another season to please highly demanding and always disppointed fans?
I wouldn't

I definitely don't look at another season as purely being fan service. I think there is still a lot of TP story left to tell if they wanted to do it. I would be fine if this was all we ever got but it really doesn't feel that way to me.
Why would they make another season to please highly demanding and always disppointed fans?
I wouldn't
Because they clearly didn't make season 3 for that element of the fan base? Nothing's really changed.

You're right indeed
Lynch obviously doesn't want another season. If he did, he wouldn't have made the end of this season so disappointing.
Remember the awesome end of season 1? Mark Frost wrote and directed that, and did everything he could to make it such an excellent last episode that the network would be desperate to bring it back to find out what happens.
Lynch & Frost made no such effort with Part 18 of The Return.
