Is it so simple ? He running down the stairs to warn Sara what's going on. Why plan failed ? Fireman said to Coop to remember Richard and Linda, but he woke up and doesn't even know who are they. We saw before the screenshoot with Sara Palmer face on Jumping Man face. That was clue. Now he running fast down, when Coop is going up to travel past and save Laura. Why this all failed. Coop is saving Laura, holds her hand and she dissapear. It can be moment, when Jumping Man arrived to Sara and she as Judy did something that ruined Fireman plan.

We only ever see the jumping man when there is movement between the physical and a lodge. So I think he is like a transport facilitator. That's how I see him

I don't think there is anything psychical. Whole convenience store dissapear in episode with Mr C going there. For me it's all lodge. When they enter there with woodsmen, Mr C. and he dissapear. So magical things happens.

I said something similar in an thread after it first aired.

Jumping Man going down the stairs is very important, and almost  certainly is the turning point of what happens next

Considering we only see him when Coop and Jeffries are  face to face, and that Jefferies never appeared to be fond of Coop (understatement) , . . . That they sabotaged and ambushed the plan bring Laura back, including the 430 marker is one of the more likely explanations

including the Jumping Man could be  "Richard"

About this screenshoot from FWWM.  I think we have to look at that from different view, that this is shown in season 3. Because when Lynch made FWWM he didn't have a plan to continue 25 years later.  So whatever Jumping Man is now, it doesn't mean it was the same in oryginal story. Same with Judy, who of us watching FWWM long time ago, thought it is ultimate evil. There was only 3 clues: monkey, a place, a woman that he met. I read most often that she can be a victim of bad Coop and that why Jeffries point him. And now she is pure evil which created BOB 🙂

So I don't know what was the oryginal purpose of Jumping Man. But now he can be something else.  Lynch could simply pick up something from old story and give it a new meaning.

I'm thinking all the time what else could ruined Fireman plan. And still only see this Jumping Man running down the stairs. We see very mad Sarah Palmer with glass and picture of Laura. So she knowns what's going on. Then Laura dissapear.

Assuming the theory about the jumping man interfering with the timeline (and the boundary between the worlds) is valid, then I see the jumping man more as a prototypical trickster/prankster/mischief maker.  He introduces chaos and uncertainty that affect the visions of the Fireman, who is very far away.

If Sarah Palmer's face was superimposed on the jumping man, we can't really call it a man anymore.

While Lynch and or Frost had no specific "plans", they sure had hell had a master plan in place.

And since I saw FWWM, I've thought Cooper was with them, or had one of them with him

While yes, things may have, or may not have "changed", but this scene was all but kept in tact in TPR. .

Well I'm not sure I have to fix my heart or die over the Jumping Man's name (although I probably could've capitalized for clarity), but it's a valid point.  I just used the name because that's the convention I became familiar with during the last 25 or so years when reading about the character.

I'm not sure if BOB possessed Laura and tasted through her mouth he would transform into BOBBETTE or BOBBINA or just be BOB inside of Laura.  Their core nature would seem to endure, although we could certainly debate whether other dimensional entities have the same gender classifications we do.  Maybe they're a-gendered or super-gendered for all we know.  🙂
