Okay, people can stop referring to this as an 18-hour movie. It's not, it's 16 hours and 25 minutes. It's a long movie cut into 18 parts, but each of those parts is under an hour long. Sure, for each part it doesn't make much difference, but over the course of 18 parts the difference adds up.
That's 95 minutes short. You could watch another normal length movie in that time. Literally, if you were planning for 18 straight hours of movie watching, you could watch The Return plus another movie. Not that it's good for anyone to sit still and stare at a screen for 18 hours straight anyway. You'd probably need a catheter fitted, or wear a nappy (diaper). Or just not drink anything and end up really thirsty.
Still think it doesn't matter? Well, what if someone else had actually made a movie that was 18 hours long, then you were on a quiz show about to win a million dollars, and the question was, "Which of these directors made an 18-hour movie?" If you were to choose David Lynch, you would lose. Haha, go home with no money you loser who doesn't care about actual facts!
If you're going to call it 18 hours, why not say it's got 20 parts, or that it has 250 cast members (including Kylie Minogue because, well, why not?), or that Kyle MacLachlan played 10 characters. It's close enough, right? It's only a rough number, right?
Lynch did not create an 18 hour movie. That's unless there is a secret 95-minute Part 19 that's going to appear as a Christmas Special?
So ???
1. It's a TV series
2. The total running time is over 17 hours
I added up the times on the Now TV website. Did I miscalculate, or is the information different on the Showtime website?
I bet they shot WAY MORE than 18 hours of film.
Gee, does the Lynch / Frost Logo must be taken into account? Now I'm wondering 🙂

I can't wait for the Missinger Pieces !

Now TV has a speeded up version, and the end of part 1 is cut.

That's disappointing 🙁 can't wait for the BD.
Bring on the 24-hour director's cut!
(With even more confusion/plot holes)
Twin Peaks (and all other TV programps) are longer in USA (and Japan) than Europe.
Why ?
E L E C T R I C I T Y
In Europe, electric frequency is 50 Hz so 50/2 = 25 frames per second (FPS) on TV
In USA, electric frequency is 60 Hz so 60/2 = 30 but 30 FPS will be very fast on TV, there is a "3/2 pull down system" to reduce the FPS to 24 (24 FPS is the speed in all movie theatres in the world).
Conclusion : the same program is 4% shorter in Europe.
Twin Peaks Return = 17 hours in USA
TPR = 16 hours and 20 minutes in Europe

I've never heard of this before, and I watch a lot of British television.
Granted, it's on DVDs and streaming services here in the states, but an hour-long show in England is an hour-long show in the U.S. Have never heard of or witnessed any time compression occurring.

That must have made some of those driving scenes a little more bearable 🙂
