... so if anyone is feeling less than enthused about the conclusion, or even the series as a whole, a sensible, civil, balanced and intelligent discussion can be found here:

I suppose I'll probably get flamed for this, but that's okay, I'm a big boy. Take a shot if it makes you feel better.
Kind regards,

P.S., how can I get my profile deleted from this site? Damned if I can find any link to do that.
Thanks in advance. Toodle-pip.
I get the opposite impression TBH. To me it seems the people who've just engaged in the forum to vent their frustration at being upset / confused, over the finale, are berating others for expressing appreciation or enjoyment.

Really? Perhaps you should take another look. I mean, that's assuming you haven't, but I'm a pretty fast reader, and even I would have difficulty reading 270 pages-worth of posts in the time you just did.
There are no 'opinion police' here, and no one is being persecuted.

Nah I'm good thanks, it's pretty clear to me who can't tolerate others' views.
The link given to a "balanced and intelligent" discussion is one titled "The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group." That doesn't necessarily sound balanced to me.
I've seen a little bit of sniping from both sides here, but for the most part, I've mostly seen a lot of good discussion and ideas on this forum.
There definitely has been some disparagement towards those that were not happy. Over and over I saw responses like "You just don't get Lynch", or the like. I was told to "fuck off" myself when I had the nerve to create a thread asking for more respect.
That mentality seems to have lessened though, and I'm seeing more open discussion now. Hang in there. Overall, I think most people on here (besides that guy that told me to fuck off) are good, welcoming people.
It has been a hell of a ride and I think everything was very raw on Sunday night/Monday morning. I am not is the "Yay for parts 17/18" club and I got some backlash, and I'm one of the most active and vocal members here. But I'm not afraid to be surrounded by people who don't agree with me. And I'm not afraid to either ignore or politely brush off people who want to be rude and disrespectful towards my opinions.
I have ALSO received a great deal of support from both dissenters and those who concur. And when I made a thread about discontent in the forum, I received a great deal of positive feedback.
If you wanna leave and never return, then leave and never return. But you seem to want something else since you decided it was important to announce your departure and continue to engage and post a link to a different forum. But hey, you do you and we'll do us.
Happy trails to you.

On the contrary, the thread I linked to, although started as a forum for disillusioned fans to voice their disillusionment, has welcomed discussion from both sides, and very rarely descended into ad-hominem. Many of the regular posters, drawn from both sides, have made intelligent, considered and thoughtful contributions.
As stated above, it is a thread that welcomes folks that may feel alienated by the surfeit of uncritical praise for the show. It's purpose is not to somehow "re-educate" fans of the new series. Persoanlly, I'm perfectly happy with the fact that many people genuinely loved it. But it's a big ol' world and there's room for all of us, isn't there? I mean, I did state that the thread I linked to was for those feeling less than enthused. If you are not one of those people, why would you feel the need to visit it?

This.
I've been so impressed with this forum since I found it towards the beginning of the series (can't remember when, I'm a lurker not really a poster). It's sad to see how people have been behaving on here the last couple of days. C'mon guys, we can all agree to disagree. Everyone is here because of a love for the show, warts and all.

Okay, reading my initial post back, it does come across as a little flippant. Apologies. As far as the second part goes, it wasn't a "screw you guys, I'm going home" type of thing - I genuinely want to know how to delete my profile. I wouldn't have put it in the post if I could have already done it. My continued presence here makes no sense to me, given that, as far as I can see, most of the threads seem to be given over to forensic analysis of every episode and the discussion of deep meaning that, hand on heart, I don't believe is even there. I tried, believe me...
You could always just log out and never log back in. Delete your browsing history, clean out your cache and cookies. You have the technology.
You could also just contact Pieter directly about how to delete your account. I bet he would know. He's pretty smart like that. 🙂
There's plenty of room in a real critique for unhappiness or displeasure in the final product. I think the key factor is whether its a constructive discussion or just venting.
There's a big difference between "I was really unhappy with the way the finale played out, I was hoping for more resolution, my heart is broken because I wasn't expecting to lose all my favorite characters at the same time, time travel is a terrible idea because it deconstructs and nullifies all the previous events and I'm pretty sure that's what happened, If it were my finale I would have done it this way etc etc" and the owls that seemed to sign up just to post "THIS SUCKS, F***K LYNCH" in so many words on every thread.
If anyone was attacked for expressing their honest disappointment or negative *critique* on the forums I think that's a shame. I also chalk it up to everyone being so emotionally wrapped up in what has been one hell of a series. I think Brandy's a great example of someone who has contributed a lot to the forum and shouldn't be attacked if she isn't thrilled with the ending. That feeling is totally valid.
Once the raw emotional impact wears off I'm hoping for a little more consistently civil back and forth between the two camps. I think we're going to figure out some cool stuff. I think there's been a lot of civil back and forth already, because honestly the long-timers on here are pretty awesome. Just wait for the Angry Owls to tire themselves out.
Far as I'm concerned, anyone can like or dislike whatever they want for whatever reason.
But... when it gets to name calling, or trying to justify an opinion by questioning someone's cognitive and/or critical faculties, then I get annoyed.
A general comment not directed at anyone in particular:
It's a fucking TV show. Grow up.
One of the problems that I've seen recently is a flood of people joined the forum to vent their disapproval and disappointment over the finale. Also, a lot of folks that haven't regularly engaged in this forum did the same. That's fine, I guess. I read the complaints and decided not to engage after a certain point. Some folks seem to feel personally insulted and offeneded by the finale, so let them have their bitch session, IMO.
The night of finale I was in the minority of people that actually wanted to discuss the finale rather than whine and a complain about it or Lynch or "the destruction of Twin Peaks." The dissenting opinion actually appears to be the one that liked the finale, not the one that dislikes it.
The opposite of "you don't get Lynch," is "no one could possibly have liked that part, the finale, etc," which I've seen bandied about.
Overall, this forum is by far the most civil one that I've come across.
