First time:
He goes into the red room, and is on his way, but when he sees Leland is sad and begging him "Find Laura", he turns, and goes back. The first time he ends in the universe with naido, and then became Dougie. The loops ends in the sheriff station.

He goes from the basement of Great Northern, into the red room, but again, Leland makes him turn back to where he came from, and ends up in the wood with diane.It ends up outside the palmers house, but in a wrong way.

First time wasn't that. Coop was going the right place, but the Arm doppelganger changed that. He met Leland because Arm doppelanger changed things. It is not his fault.

Cooper has been heading in the wrong direction ever since The Man From Another Place told him that the next time he saw him, it wouldn't be him. Cooper went into another room and he returned to the 'same room' where The Man From Another Place tells him "Wrong Way". He shouldn't have listened to him.
