He's been trapped in the Lodge 25 years then trusts them to send him back in time to "save" Laura. And hey guess what things go wrong. Uhhhh

I don't even trust The Firemen now. Mr C finds the portal in the woods and goes through.. ending up in a "cage" in the White Lodge. So why the hell didn't they keep him in that cage? He and Bob were caught- then they just released them? Right where he wanted to be? WTF?

And the whole changing history angle.. yuck. Best case scenario, Laura is saved.. wiping out all of that history? Coop's time in Twin Peaks! All those connection- Truman, the Bookhouse Boys, Audrey, everything- never happened? And then there's the worst case scenario we apparently received where history is all jacked up now and who knows what is real or not real?

If there were more Twin Peaks, I'm thinking Laura would have to "sacrifice herself-" willingly go back to her original fate to set things right. But I think I've read and watched that plot before in other sci fi.. ?

Dale knows from the moment Laura whispers in his ear exactly what he is in for.

Exactly - and how was the Fireman able to create a black hole vortex rather than a white one - if the Fireman was able to trap Bad Coop in a cage, why not just keep him there for eternity? Also, if the Fireman was able to manipulate Bad Coop into vortex and transplant him to anywhere he wanrted - why did we go through the pomp and circumstance of Episodes 1-16?

Gordon and Briggs are kinda dumb too. Chasing Judy to do what? Arm wrestle Evil? The more I think on it the more the show collapses on itself.

The Fireman released him back into the world because BoB needed to be destroyed. We do not know the powers of the Fireman. He might not be able to directly kill BoB himself. Freddie however, can. The Fireman has been pretty switched on so far, he knew releasing him into Twin Peaks would lead to his, and BoB'S demise. Notice how everyone was safe and no one apart from Mr C. and BoB died? I fail to understand your mistrust of the Fireman. In Season 1 and 2 he provided the meta-lore needed for Coop to crack essential parts of the case. Briggs was a good guy, and he is existing in the White Lodge alongside the Fireman.

The Fireman literally sets Mr. C on the path to his downfall. He is a good guy. The Black Vs. White vortex could simply be a reflection of the person being sucked in. We know the Black vortex in South Dokota leads to the White Lodge also because its where Hastings met Briggs, who along with the Fireman tried to give information which would lead to the triumph of good and the downfall of evil.

Thoughts?

Dale Cooper has consistently exhibited self-sacrifice throughout seasons 1-3.  He became Jean Renault's hostage to free Ernie and Denise.  He was willing to give his soul to Windom Earle to save Annie.

Cooper seemed to know that he was likely sacrificing himself for the greater good.  I don't think he was dumb; his actions were consistent with his character.
