if cooper is Richard and wakes up in the hotel room and The Who,e thing was a dream and he really is just Richard. Of course this doesn't explain why Carrie screams, any thoughts?
As you say, the scream at the end does lay that theory to rest somewhat - but the idea of Richard being some poor deluded soul who falsely believes he is an FBI agent on a secret, mystical mission to save a damsel in distress, does appeal to part of me.
If only we could figure out the scream and what she whispers to him, then we'd have some peace. But I'm sure we will all still be discussing this in 25 years

Right before the scream you can hear Sarah Palmer shout Lauraaaa in a strange voice. The same as she did when she did to wake up Laura for school in the original series.
A lot hinges on the implication of that scream, doesn't it? I think the idea that Sarah yelling her name awakens her to the other dimension - the bad one, where she was abused and murdered - is clearly connoted.

It surely brings the memories of the other dimension back to her...
It's happening again !! 😉
