I know this may not be directly related to parts 17 and 18, but I thought I'd share this- please see the part from executive producer of Twin Peaks, Sabrina Sutherland:

I've been encouraging people everywhere to contact Showtime and tell them they want more or just thank them for giving us TPTR.

Haven't Showtime already suggested that it's mainly up to David Lynch?

From what i gather, they were both going to wait until TPTR finished before they would discuss the possibility of more. They maybe wanted to judge the response. Neither have ruled it out or said no at this point, so, as Kyle M said... "fingers crossed".
Makes sense
I'm not sure I'd be interested in watching another twin peaks unless both frost and lynch were involved.
Imagine a series four, written by unknowns and directed by some awful director!

Like JJ Abrams? (????)
But how do you proceed with another season? Surely that would destroy the mystery we are left with at the end of this series? For me I am happy with the ending. Twin Peaks is complete as a series. How would you continue the series?

I think that depends on what the co-creators intended by the end of this series and whether they think there is more story to tell.
I'm rooting for a Blue Rose Task Force spin off starring Chrysta Bell and Mr. KoolAid as Phillip Jeffries.

Hmmm, we might end up with weird antagonists who dance around in their thermal underwear, weird managers of department stores that might impregnate sheriff office employees, or random stories of femme fatales that live somewhere out of TP and need their husband's car fixed.
On the other hand, we might end up finding out whatever happened to Leo.

OH YEAH!

Ah, the doldrums of season two.
To be honest though, that would make some people happier.

If I ever half to look at Windom Earle again, I'm likely to wrap somebody up in plastic and send them down the river. Best thing that ever happened with that guy was BOB.
However, if they ever do reprise the character, they may as well have Jim Carrey play it.
I am flabbergasted by the number of people saying they "don't want anymore Twin Peaks, it's nicely concluded." Wow! I mean, I generally hated the last couple of episodes but I loved the series as a whole and I'm sure my disgust for 17&18 will evolve over time.
I love "pure heroin Lynch." I'd also love to see a "unleashed Mark Frost" series. Or a series written and directed by other creators, supervised/excecutive produced by Frost and/or Lynch. Why not? I'm not ashamed to say I'm in love with the wide world of Twin Peaks and want more. So much potential in a sandbox that's only grown larger thanks to "The Return."
I can appreciate the surreal but also the more conventional stories. Why can't different tales in this world have different flavors? Different ratios of linear VS surreal? I'm not talking bland corporate cinematic universe, I'm talking a playground for a variety of innovative creators.
Imagine a season with dueling plot lines- an "official version" Twin Peaks where Laura disappeared decades ago but never died, where Leland is alive and up to god knows what. And a separate plot line in the "alternate Richard & Linda reality," did the plan work or not? Are Cooper and Diane strong enough to remember who they are and get the hell out of the twisted world inprisoning them? Can Laura return with them? Or will Cooper & Laura realize changing time came at to high a price for the larger world?
I think episode 17/18 almost has to be resolved by Lynch assuming he wants it resolved. But hell I'd take a series crated by Frost alone without the Cooper character following Special Agent Tammy Preston discovering "official version" Twin Peaks" circa 2018/19. Bring it on!
I agree. BRING IT ON!
What do you think an "unleashed Mark Frost" series would look like, or be about, or be called?
