When Cooper finally snaps out of it, he obviously still doesn't have his pin. However, when him, Diane, and Cole are transported to the mysterious basement, he has his pin back, and he's wearing his pin when he goes to Judy's diner.
In the Pilot, he doesn't have a pin. This could be a wardrobe change because the show was picked up, and they decided to give him a pin with the FBI logo on it. But in Fire Walk With Me he also doesn't have a pin, further hinting that the pin does have some significance. In fact, he doesn't have the pin until he spends a night at the Great Northern, room 315. The same room key is used in Part 17 to unlock the door and meet Gerard. Which means: when Cooper originally replaced Dougie, his shoes and pin don't come with him, but the room key does? Also should be pointed out that the noise Ben Horne hears at the Great Northern was never explained, making me think his hotel room, or the hotel itself is more important then previously thought.
Yeah just spotted this. I would expect it's intentional, what that intention is exactly is a different question.
His doppelgänger IS wearing the pin.
Sometimes the pin looks black with white markings and sometimes white with black markings. Is this just a reflective quality making it appear different? The pin is really tripping me out right now!
That scene where he is talking the Fireman I think (could be Mike) in the Lodge, but the pin looks all white for the entire scene except the last half second when he leans forward to stand up, then it becomes evident that it was just catching the light full-on and is actually mostly black without the glare.
This show has changed how I watch video of any kind. Hell, I look for piercing clues when I'm sitting at the park. Higher plane or just Lynch addled?
There has always been a lot of cut scenes to reduce the footage time to an acceptable amount. Here is my guess; there was a scene after the sheriff station, before meeting Mike, where Gordon has welcomed Cooper back to FBI and gifted him a pin. When you remove this scene it sure looks like a discontinuity but I dont think that pin thing is a big deal.
