Hi dopplebarb,

the sex magical ritual performed by jack parsons and aleister crowley in 1946 which they do to try and conjur the mother of all evil to produce the anti-Christ. And jacks future bride Marjorie Cameron shows up- anyway they make Diane look like Marjorie Cameron in the show and they have to perform this sex magic ritual in the motel to shift the reality so cooper can get to Laura and weaken Judy (?)

Someone was nice enough to do a side-by-side photographic comparison of Linda and Marjorie Cameron:

Purposeful?  =:-O

😉

From wikipedia:

Sex magic (sometimes spelled sex magick) is any type of sexual activity used in magical, ritualistic or otherwise religious and spiritual pursuits. One practice of sex magic is using the energy of sexual arousal or orgasm with visualization of a desired result. A premise of sex magic is the concept that sexual energy is a potent force that can be harnessed to transcend one's normally perceived reality.

So many comments and questions and none even slightly appropriate..........

I know where you're coming from!  ...uh, so to speak...  😉

I think I can explain why the guard in Manhattan went missing: It was set up for Tracey and the boy (Sam, was that his name?) to have sex. Mr. C wanted them to conjure "the experiment" there, because I think Mr. C planned on Cooper being there in the box in that moment and The Experiment would have annihilated Cooper...

I think we all agreed a while back that Mr. C intended for Dougie to be the "Cooper" to go back into the lodge so that Mr. C could stay out. But Mr. C knew that Cooper would be bound to come out, and he figured out a way to make a magnet to bring Cooper to this spot--the glass box.

When Cooper is in the glass box, we see him get boxed in and boxed in by smaller and smaller boxes until he disappears and goes to the dimension where he finds American Girl. In that room, we hear the banging sound that Tracey and Sam hear The Experiment making shortly before they turn and see it. So it seems to me that Cooper narrowly escaped being annihilated; someone saved him; white lodge forces saved him. I had the thought originally that "American Girl"--performed by the actress who played Ronnette Pulaski--represented battered girls like Shelly, Ronnette, and Laura; she was among the white lodge forces, and participated in saving Coop, and this was a kind of thank you to the people who sought justice for abused girls.

So if the sex magick conjures Mother/Experiment (same thing, right?), then Mr. C woulda told guards to stand down at a time when Sam and Tracey would be there and when Cooper was due to arrive in the box to be killed.

Now i'm confused about the rest....

So going back to the thread starter: Wow!! This really puts a new spin on things. It seems like Cooper and Diane did accomplish their mission, and all the thoughts about Cooper mistakenly taking Laura back to a place she wouldn't want to go were wrong. Stuff I wrote in my "cowboy" thread would be wrong. Or BETTER YET! Both explanations could be just as well correct and Frost/Lynch wanted them both to have equal standing. THAT'S what I love about a work like this. It goes beyond just "no easy answer" into "no correct answer."

But I'm still a bit confused about the connection between Cooper leading Laura through the forest in Episode 17 and then Judy being drawn into the Richard/Carrie world where they all get annihalated. What happened to the original world, the Twin Peaks world? Judy's just gone? Does that mean that truly none of our events ever happened? Am I thinking too linearly now?

And why would Carrie realizing that she's Laura Palmer destroy anything? Is that just how it is, or were there clues dropped, maybe in Red Room sequences, that if Laura found herself she would die. "I am dead, yet I live"? So I'd like to be able to think there is a "mission accomplished" explanation to Episode 18, and yes the Marjorie Cameron business explains Diane's red hair and why she was dressed in east Asian garb throughout the season, but I'm still confused by it.

I've had TSHOTP sitting on my shelf forever but wanted to read it after the show. I guess now's the time.

Right, but somehow their sex in the loft summoned the mother. I guess there's other ways than just having red hair but it also seems like the intention would need to be there.

Did their little session summon the mother or experiment, or whatever that was?  Or was it just crappy timing on their part? It seems if it was a setup, things were setup before that with the security guard suddenly being gone.

The theory that their having sex summoned the Mother/Experiment has been ongoing since the premier. Has a lot to do with The Secret History and Crowley's influence, as per Frost. Further theorized, after part 8, that Laura is the Moonchild and Mother/Experiment/Judy is Babalon (mother of abominations).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babalon

The sex bit seems more plausible after the finale. Not sure about the rest.

Initially, I thought that Mother/Experiment was supposed to kill Cooper (became more convinced after watching video below - but the whole synching thing is problematic, IMO), but haven't been so sure after reading threads on this forum prior to joining.
