All the continuity "errors" are definitely, absolutely, positively deliberate and I think I figured it out.
In Episode 18 there are two major errors discontinuities, over and above the changing motel, car and names.
For one thing, Coop collects two guns from the guys in the diner and then suddenly, behind the counter, has three to deep fry. Another is, his car goes from slightly dusty to filthy to clean on the trip. In the key episode to the whole series, it's unbelievable they'd make such basic errors, given that they appear to have planted so many hidden things and made several obvious "mistakes" throughout. I don't know about Frost but Lynch doesn't let a thing go by unless it's exactly how he wants it.
I have a feeling these things, plus all the other discontinuities, flashing windows, walking doorknobs and so on through the series are part of the overall mess Cooper made by trying to rescue Laura. The show itself gives the game away with the strap line "It's happening again". Yes, it is and will continue to happen until Cooper quits dreaming and gets on the beam.
All the Fireman's words weren't advice, or helpful hints, or cryptic clues. They were warnings. "Cooper, stop this nonsense right this minute. You're playing hob with the timelines and it's so bad even our boiler's leaking, the mice have over run the kitchen and me Missis won't cook me dinner. Just bleedin' quit, will yer?"
Or, to put it another way:
Those who cannot learn from the pasta are destined to reheat it. Or something.

OK. *deep inhale*
I've fought off saying this aloud for a long time, Sam X. I would absolutely tulpa myself to live inside your flippin' brain for ONE DAY! hahahahahahaha!
Yep, I think the very many glitches, continuity errors, questionable editing (Tammy Preston getting her gun), text message differences, etc. were all by design or welcome mistakes that further f'd us up.
I'm unsure what the Fireman wanted from Coop. He seemed more in league with Mike than the Fireman. The Fireman's clues have never been that useful. "Listen to the sounds" - Coop hears it as Laura vanished.

Thank you, but you wouldn't enjoy it much, trust me. Imagine being like this all the damn time.

Could this have anything to do with the reason why Fireman expedited Mr. C's transport to Twin Peaks via "his house"? That scene bothered me...I mean, Mr. C can drive.
Yep, I'm sure he was getting fed up of having to dial for Domino's all the time. He just wanted to get back to some good old home cooking, sort out the boiler and get rid of the mice. Rodents are extremely destructive. Can you imagine the damage they'd do to all those electrical bell thingies?
Seriously - yes, I can be - I think he wanted to move things along because Mr C was an enormous pain in the hind end and needed finishing off at the hurry up. I don't think he can do direct intervention. Maybe it's against the rules. Even an all powerful being (which has never been properly addressed) may have to abide by certain rules, even if he wrote them himself. But he may be able to bend the rules a little by giving someone a shove in the right direction, or a handy dandy celestial teleport now and again.
The teleport would probably be allowed because the Fireman could argue that what happened after was up to the people involved. He just put them in the right place at the right time.
I dunno, I just make this stuff up and it seems to fit. ?

All these whiners: "wah, wah, wah, 99% unexplained, nothing but cliffhangers, we are left in the dark." Here ya go, whiners. Coordinates scandalously misdirected, thus trapping Mr. C into the White Lodge only to put him on the express lane to Doomsville. Closure. Wham! Deal with it.
(probably dead wrong, but I'm happy with myself)
Love it..
I caught the two guns vs three as well. No idea why, but it has to be on purpose. It is all so drawn out and slow.
I think it's hilarious that all of Mr. C's plots, plans, and general nastiness led him straight into the Fireman's Coop-Trap in his house. I was a little disappointed Seniorita Dido wasn't serenely having tea with Major Brigg's head, but I'm sure she was just in the other room enjoying her music.
I'm sure this has been asked in another thread (but since there's 9 pages of threads with people whining incessantly and I really don't care to peruse them all,) could anyone tell what Mr C turned into when he was getting jettisoned back out? It just looked like some kind of splat to me.
Anyway, now that the horror of watching poor Cooper be, yet again, lost to us for perhaps forever has worn off, I'm eager to rewatch those two parts and perhaps more to check for details and inconsistencies like the ones you mentioned.
Gonna go slog through some threads for actual content now, wish me luck!
And one tiny bit that satisfied me, as I expected. When doppelganger was burning he didn't wear his black lenses but revealed this strange scary faded eyes. In this case no continuity error!

I hope this is not the case, because that's straight out of the CW's The Flash, where Barry keeps going back in time to save his mom, his GF, prevent catastrophe, messing up the timelines and unwittingly creating more trouble.
I would largely agree with this - although maybe what we have actually been watching is a compilation of scenes from numerous near-identical multiverses. Either happening in parallel, or sequentially in a never-ending time-loop.
For instance - in the Diane shooting scene, the discrepancies in times can be explained by the fact that we are watching a blend of near-identical events across parallel universes or alternative timelines, all with the same outcome but with very slight differences.
Or they are stylistic touches from Lynch. Either to reinforce the dream-like quality of the show. Or to provide the viewer with a feeling of uneasiness.
I'm fine with both.

It's happened in Doctor Who, years ago, too. He tries to save someone but they end up killing themself anyhow, or somebody else plays around with time and buggers up everything in the process. Sure, it's not a new idea but with Twin Peaks, at least it seems there are some beings aware of what's happening and trying to get Cooper off the treadmill.
It looks like he's making things worse for everyone at the moment, though. Maybe he always will. Either Kyle M or Lynch said the story was about a man in trouble. Nobody said he'd ever get out of trouble, though.
