Go to 2009 on the timeline and spin the camera around. You'll see this:
Uhhh - I mean, it could/probably is a coincidence but... certainly weird.
That's pretty spooky.
I have been trying to figure out exactly where this 430 was supposed to be. Is it a MPM 430, if so, where? Or is it 430 miles from somewhere....if so WHERE? What am I missing?
This made me think. Is the road Cooper is on with Diane here the same one Mr. C is driving when he crashes his car when Cooper exits the black lodge via the sockets?
No, it isn't. I checked.
So they really drove 430 miles to shoot that scene. That seems like a long way, but it's clearly possible.
Heyo,
Although it is in kilometres, Odessa Tx (city centre) is precisely 430km (as crow flies) from the Trinity Test site monument - which would be the epicentre of the bomb. White Sands New Mexico isn't far away from the Trinity site either. I don't think Odessa was chosen at random. Episode 8 holds the key to the finale, and whole series, I think.
C
Could Cooper be exploring multiple interpretations of 430 while he is on an infinite dreamquest to find Laura? One interpretation takes him 430 miles to a dimensional shift. Another interpretation take him 430 km from the Trinity site to Odessa.
We don't see the thousands of interpretations that had no significant result (chanting 430 bottles of beer on the wall, collecting 430 original Honus Wagner cards, laying out 430 dominos in an owl-like pattern, etc.)

No, the OP just used that in the Title. The road they actually used for filming in or near Los Angles. In the film I don't think 430 miles is meant to suggest they drove to Odessa. Rather they drove 430 miles from Glastonbury grove where Diane and Cooper were when he came out of the Red Room. I think when they went through the portal at 430 miles they traveled through both time and space the way Jeffries did in FWWM., ending up in Odessa. I think Odessa was chosen for at least 2 reasons. The first being that the animal of Odessa is a jackrabbit which indicates the portal/motel were of the Fireman the same way the portal near Jackrabbit's Palace was. The second may be because Odessa is the feminine form of Odysseus, calling the mind the Odyssey and a voyage home. As Cooper does with Carrie/Laura.

What I can't figure out is what landscape looks like that 430 from where TP theoretically is located.

Well, that depends on the direction you take. You could end up with any landscape with that big a range from Northeast Washington. But since the location they did use is similar to that used for the Richard Horne fry up that is another reason I thought it meant that. You can certainly find an area like the one they used in the Mountain West area.

I've mapped it out in every direction and unless they took some weird windy back roads, I can't figure out where they are supposed to be if the theory holds that they are driving 430 miles from TP.
I have driven by there! Its one the way to Big Pines from Sherman Oaks! ( I didn't go to an alternate dimension. I don't think. )
