Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
Since seeing Dale direct MIKE to make "another," I've been thinking he could have been making "tulpa" from the inside, and maybe he made Dougie and actually saw the Earth and found the woman he knew he could love, so he directed Dougie to her.... That's one way to reconcile him saying he'll return to them. Many of us wanted him and Janey-E together.
BUT, the Entertainment Weekly podcast (which is pretty good) just gave me a much much simpler explanation:
Dale was creating another Dougie Jones to go return to the Joneses, and he (Dale) won't see them again. It has me a little sad at the moment.
Maybe the final scene will be Dale Cooper setting off in search of Annie.
I think this is yrev very important question. It seems obvious that Cooper will create his tulpa (with little help from Mike) to be left with Joneses as the good copy, loving husband and father. It's really cool that it was the first decision of our awakened special agent. But I think (and I hope for) that he will eventually change his mind and he will return himself.
First: everybody deserves to have real father and husband, not some, even decent, copy...
Sedond: I hope that Cooper will understand, and I can see it as a final message of the show, that creating tulpas, releasing doppelgangers etc is totally out of balance and it doesn't give the world any good.
Life is about choices and equilibrium. Who wouldn't like to divide himself once in a while? One part stays at home, the other goes partying, the third makes spectacular career, and yet another one travels the world.
It's not how it works unfortunately...
I believe that Coop (the Coop we know and love and not mullet Coop) arranged for the 'making' of another Dougie so that Jane-E and Sonny Jim would have a restored balance. The sad thought is that now she's encountered the *real* Coop, is she going to end up with another fat useless husband who bangs prossies?

Doubtful 'cause the new Dougie will be made from Coop genes and not doppel-genes.

That's a lovely thought, and valid to boot. As I type I'm on the second watch and Coop has just this second bigged up Bushnell (and the classic TP music has kicked in. I have yet more tears). #heart emoji
I love this!
Didn't look at it that way before (about real Coop returning to that family) but I love it.
Interesting ideas! I agree that it would be sad and a bit cruel and very unlike Copper to want to give Janey-E a tulpa as a husband for the rest of her life. Surely that can't be it!
Also everything has gone wrong due to the imbalance caused by tulpas etc. They can't be the answer!

Sorry folks but there's no ambiguity here; Coop gave some hair for cloning. The story-line is closed.
Yeah, Coop has a much higher and/or greater purpose than settling down in Vegas with a former tulpa's family. But, he is Coop, so had Mike create a better version of the og tulpa. Janey-E understood, but I'm sure it won't be easy for her, since she briefly met the genuine article. Also, Coop has improved Dougie's standing at work (he and Bushnell are besties now), hooked the family up with the Mitchums (well connected and will provide protection), and also injected life into a formerly failing marriage and father and son relationship. It's a happy ending for the Jones family.
He could've vanished without a trace, but that's not Coop.
This is Lynch mate and we're just heading for finale. I'm not sure anything is closed;)
As I said before on many occasions I have a trust on Lynch and his decisions but I really hope that Joneses will not be left with some tulpa. There is also a question about what Dale Cooper wants. Did he fall in love with his new family or maybe he doesn't need to personally raise his son...? I seriously doubt that.
I understand your thoughts, Ella. Cooper is a stand up dude that most always seems to do the right thing. This is evidenced in his reply to Janey-E's "Don't leave," as he says, "I have to." He understands his role in trying to save reality as "we" know it. That is much bigger than anything he might want to do. It's about doing the right thing not about what he wants.
Sonny Jim isn't technically his child. He's the child of Dougie the tulpa of Mr C (hence the philandering, gambling, insurance scams, etc.). However, I don't think that matters to Cooper. He'd raise him as if he was his own.
Given all of my posts in this thread, I can actually envisage a cliffhanger based upon the ambiguity of whether or not it's Coop or the new Dougie walking through the Red door in Vegas. Anything is possible and I'm not ruling it out.

In Dougie's defence, perhaps he did this only because Janey E showed zero sexual Interest in him (remember she suddenly looked at Coop/Dougie sexually once Coop Proper took his top off.
Obviously what he did (sleeping with Jayden) was unnecessary, but I also had the impression that Dougie and her shared a little bit more than just a professional relationship. There was some respect there I think.
Basically what I'm saying is - I don't think it's all Dougie here. Just look how self centred and ignorant Janey has been over Dougie Coop.
Totally. I can imagine the ending with "What is your name" question and us left with answer to figure out. But that would be cruel:)
As for the "tulpa living with Janey-E and Sonny Jim" option, I also see some arguments. It looks like in Twin Peaks universe the best agents, creme de creme which is Blue Rose team are single who did not start the family. Albert, Gordon.... Also Cooper had some love interests like Annie or Audrey who may await the rescue...
So it's really complicated:) Just still see these sad, broken, devastated eyes of Sonny Jim...
I think the obvious answer here is the right one...but I'm also toying with the idea that Cooper knows a court will hold him liable for the doppelganger's crimes, and is perhaps creating a Tulpa to see out the prison sentence, while he returns to the Jones', and possibly taking over the hapless Vegas department of the FBI.
Not concrete, and probably wrong, but it would be the closest thing to a happy ending Coop's gonna get.
