Honestly I haven't watched much television in my lifetime until the last three years or so. I've never impatiently anticipated a show or engaged with another show quite like I have with TPTR. I will, however, say the best and most memorable series finale that I've seen is Six Feet Under (outside of the Twin Peaks season 2 finale, which I'm hoping TPTR eclipses).
I bawl my head off even thinking about the ending of SFU.
I would say that is the best ending to a show I've ever seen but series 2 TP ending was the best ending (if you get what I mean).
For finales it would have to be Mad Men, but for sheer anticipation, this is as intense as the wait for Season 3 of Sherlock (and if you know the show, you know that's a high compliment!).
Of course that was a two-year wait, so you had to pace yourself or go crazy. Whereas this has been one concentrated week of ecstatic anxiety.
Lost
The Leftovers
Boardwalk Empire
Horace and Pete

I understand perfectly.
We're talking about series finales, not season finales, right..? Then Mr. Robot and Legion don't count. 😛
The title was "What was the last TV show finale you waited impatiently ?"
which never specified if it was a series or season finale, so they are both still valid shows.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show. (hey, I was born in 1960).
Nowt. As I may have mentioned, I don't do telly, Twin Peaks and (sometimes) Doctor Who excepted.
I watched Lost up to the bitter end and wished I'd not wasted me bleeding time. Have I ever mentioned how brassed off I am about that? 😉
I guess it'd be the original Twin Peaks, if that counts.

Was very disappointed by the Lost finale, but now I'm thinking I must have missed something
Ready to give it another chance
Apart from that, the rest of the show was great.

I've lost count of the number of people who misinterpreted the ending of lost and thought the whole thing was set in purgatory.
I was disappointed in the first viewing of the finale. Then I watched the whole series from scratch a few years later and enjoyed the ending more the second time round.
I guess it didn't help that JJ Abrams and Damien Lindelof basically admitted afterwards to making the whole thing up as they went along. So there was never a logical end in sight.

But at the same time, Lindelof keeps saying it's the perfect ending for him, so it makes me wonder, I probably got it all wrong.
What's your interpretation of the las episode? Is it heaven?
As others have suggested, pre-TP seasons. Other than that, erm..., well...Walking Dead and GoT. But yes, they pale into insignificance on many levels.

Yes it's heaven, or the halfway step just before they head to heaven.
The thing that people always say about Lost was that the last episode tells us that the whole series was imaginary, set in heaven. And therefore a complete waste of time.
But Jack's dad confirms in this episode that everything that they experienced on the island actually happened. So I don't understand why people still think that series 1 - 7 was all made up! 😀
I'm sure you also interpreted it correctly. It's just many people choose to disregard everything that happens in the series, and just focus on the final episode for some reason.
On second viewing, I quite enjoyed the final season. It gives closure in the truest sense possible.
It's still one of my all time favourite shows 🙂
Oh crikey, how could I forget?!
Breaking Bad.

Thing is, I wasn't sure what to understand. I was pretty basic about it and just thought they all went to church. 🙂 (basic indeed)
I should definitely watch it again, especially after The Leftovers ended so perfectly, wanna give the Lost finale another chance.
