Nothing! I don't remember being this excited for the original finale of TP. Maybe I was. Twin Peaks Season 3 is unique for me.
Honestly I haven't watched much television in my lifetime until the last three years or so. I've never impatiently anticipated a show or engaged with another show quite like I have with TPTR. I will, however, say the best and most memorable series finale that I've seen is Six Feet Under (outside of the Twin Peaks season 2 finale, which I'm hoping TPTR eclipses).
I'm suffering from tremendous anxiety over this finale. I welcome it, but I don't want it to end. I may need 2 margueritas - one for each episode.
The Man In The High Castle - 2017. Didn't think it would get another season.
Yes, I think many of us are. Lynch and Frost had to have known how high the expectations would be. The finale has been set up beautifully. Dont mess this up, David!
The Man In The High Castle - 2017. Didn't think it would get another season.
Both seasons are on my "watch list." Loved the book (and I know that the series deviates).
I thought the Breaking Bad and Sopranos finales were brilliant. Also I have enjoyed some of the last episodes of the Doctor Who series that have been on since 2005 and Line of Duty series finales have been good.
We're talking about series finales, not season finales, right..? Then Mr. Robot and Legion don't count. 😛
Battlestar Galactica. I was so hyped. And I was one of the rare people not to hate it, although I was also one of the rare people to notice strong similarities between its 'twist' and the storyline of two older anime (Gall Force: The Movie in 1986, and Wolf's Rain much later.)
Star Trek DS9. I didn't watch the show live, in the 90s I would buy the UK VHS tapes as they were imported monthly in my local comic book store. They were expensive and came without subtitles. Possibly helped me get better at English. Great series finale, but could have been better if they had stuck to the original scripted ending. (Or had they ended the show with 'Far beyond the stars'.)
Being Erica. A little known Canadian show in the 'therapy fantasy' style, halfway between a Jewish shrink movie and a time-travel show à la Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, mostly targeted to women, but I love it to death (and the finale was very emotional.)
Speaking about it... Ashes to Ashes. I was SO hyped about the last one! It was broadcast on the very same day the LOST series finale was shown, and had a similar twist at the end -- except it left viewers satisfied, because it was foretold. And really, really great.
The Legend of Korra. Another 'sequel show' that I discovered long *before* the original, and that I still find superior to the original (yes I'm talking about you too, Twin Peaks). Slightly disappointing, mostly because it focused on a twist ending (not a cliffhanger) that was meant as a 'fuck you' to the producers, I think. (Great animated show BTW. Great soundtrack.)
Quantum Leap -- okay, I didn't anticipate it, back in the day I didn't have access to a list of the episodes so I watched the episode without knowing it was the last. But it's one of the best series finales I've ever watched, so I'll include it.
Special mention to Babylon 5, which for complicated reasons ended up having two series finales, both sublime. The latter was very, very much hyped when I watched the show so I survived through the uneven season 5 just so I could watch it, and wasn't disappointed.
Okay, sorry, that's all very scifi-oriented... Since we're talking about anticipated finales, it has to be about shows we care about. Just my usual tastes. My most anticipated finale ever must have been for my favorite show, which is an anime called Saint Seiya, but it had no definitive ending so I was very much let down -- it actually took 15 years for a proper continuation to be made, à la Twin Peaks. It was, in fact, even more satisfying than the original, à la Twin Peaks. But also ended abruptly because the director got fired for being too experimental and then replaced by a yes man. Hopefully NOT à la Twin Peaks.
Outside of anime (I've got tons of old shows for which I couldn't wait for the last episode, so I'm gonna skip them...), and outside of scifi, I can think of Community, Black Adder Goes Fourth, Breaking Bad (although I binged it), and I don't know, I'm sorry, I'm just not that excited about series finales in non-scifi, they're usually duller to me.
I have to say, I was much more hyped about Dale's return than about tomorrow's finale. Not that I don't want to see the end -- just that I don't think it'll be as exhilarating as Dale's return. So I consider episode 16 to be one of my most expected 'series finales' of all time, e.g. barely slept the night before, downloaded it at 5am, watched it at 5:30am in my bed with the sound at minimum level so I wouldn't wake Sonny C.
