How could it be? Was this scene not before Lauras death, and before Dale ventured into the lodge? Mr C told Phillip Jefferies in episode 15, "You spoke to me.."(paraphrase)

Evil Cooper has all of Good Cooper's memories....so he should remember it too.   Jeffries knows this.

He has some residual 'Cooper' - how that's shared with Dougie Cooper, I've no idea, but I don't think it was 'bad' Cooper in the scene with Jeffries - but Cooper before he diverged.
Jeffries seems to have knowledge from elsewhere/ another time, so implies the Cooper in the FBI office might be one of a couple of options...

Pretty sure that was the real Agent Cooper in the room.  But in scenes where he runs back to look at the live feed video screens, sometimes he sees himself in the picture and sometimes he does not.  So, that leads me to believe that evil coop is also there.

My thoughts on this ~

- pre Twin Peaks the light/dark sides of Cooper were fully integrated within the one person however after venturing into the Waiting Room/Lodge his light/dark sides split into two, leaving us with childlike Dougie and pure evil MrC. this explains shared memories, a theory that's been discussed already on this forum.

- time/space loops. Clearly we're being shown breaks in time, suspended time... did Mr C go back in time and pose as Cooper?

I'm resisting a conclusion that reveals a complete corruption of the Coop we love.

Both of them there together?! That's possible. With the space/time loops, why not?

Why'd Jeffries' make this remark?

As seen via the monitor, Jeffries walks past the still Cooper in the hallway, indicating he doesn't see him. I think that was a kind of message being sent to Coop about the future with his doppelganger ( he sees it in a dream first, now in waking life ).

I have similar thoughts to yours. A portion of one of my posts in a different thread: "My thought is: As long as one of them is in the Lodge, they have a sort of shard consciousness; meaning, the one in the Lodge will possess the memories/experiences of the one out and about in the "earthly realm." But, once both of them are physically in the earthly realm so to speak, their consciousness  diverged or separated. "

Where we differ is in thinking that Coop won't be corrupted. I'd rather he not, but his countenance in both of the scenes in the trailers causes me to be sceptical (that's also if it's not Mr C impersonating Coop).

Yup. This comment bothers me. I'm hoping it's an observation by Jeffries that MrC (the evil half) has asserted himself as the new Cooper (the good half is asleep, powerless). Only one of the two can rightly claim the title.

Yup. I'm getting nervous about the conclusion ~ well done Lynch & Frost, all of us nail biting, sweating it out on the edge of our seats...

What it also establishes is that Jefferies does not know everything going on.

Mr. C. was not revealing who he is to Jeffries ( communicating through a kind of spirit machine ), he was trying to get more info. out of him. He has Coop's memories.

That is part of what I gathered as well.

I just posted this on another thread, here, but it's driving me insane:

What confused me is Jeffries/Giant's tower bell thing said something along the lines of, "So you are Cooper." Is he...? My brain was thrown for a moment, thinking maybe that WAS Cooper, and the doppelgänger all along has been Dougie/Cooper. It couldn't have been "bad" Cooper in the FBI office in 1989 (that was directly pre-Laura Palmer murder). And I understand that "Mr. C." has absorbed memories, blah blah blah, if he ISN'T the real Cooper...but I think to the finale of Season 2, where Cooper/Bob laughed manically in the mirror. This is the antithesis of what Mr. C. is, today - so stoic, so evolved. I dunno....
