The wooden shovels were painted gold by Dr. Amp. I wonder where Nadine was headed after her break-up with Big Ed? To the woods? Does she become the new log lady who has obscure messages for townsfolk of Twin Peaks from her shovel?

Stupid theory of the day: the log has always been gold; she just had some fear in letting go of the illusion. The log is a golden ball sent by her husband, the Fireman, to communicate with her.
