There's another thing that bothers me personally: when Cooper awakes in the Great Northern, first thing he does is asking how's Annie. Why would the doppelganger, if that was him, ask about her?
that's an act on the part of the character as well as a narrative device that momentarily suspends our realization that he has been inhabited by bob. remember how he goes into the bathroom to "brush his teeth" & repeats "how's annie, how's annie?" to himself in this really sarcastic voice & he's just tickled pink by it. then the famous mirror scene happens which gives us final evidence that he is not himself.
Until S03 happened, I've always thought that the Cooper that awakes is the real Cooper, and only a few moments later, in the bathroom, BOB manifests itself, both to Cooper and to the viewers.
Okay, this is my first post ever in here, TP fan since forever, but something caught my attention in this episode.
We all seem to think, that Evil Coop is the evil doppelganger of our beloved Dale. But since ep. 8, where the woodsmen removed BOB from him, he has been slowly resembling our Dale in certain ways. More determination, knocking out bad guys, etc. Most noticeable in this episode where he speaks with Jeffries. I would have imagined the questions Coop asks him to be the kind of questions that good Dale would have asked him. He seems less evil than before somehow.
Some holes in my theory probably, but has anyone noticed the same?
Maybe Dougie has been manufactured for another purpose? Kind of a plot twist, I know. Maybe "evil" Dale and Dougie need to be combined somehow, through electricity.
I'm inclined to agree with you that Mr. C. is a shadow self--conceptually anyway, if not in the mythology of the program, if that makes any sense. And I did think that BOB left him in episode 8 but now I'm not sure he left him entirely. However, it is certain that we have not "seen" BOB, visually, since episode 8. That has to mean something. I think Mr. C. has a separate identity from BOB, and it's not a nice guy by any means, but it lacks the utter malevolence of BOB. Mr. C is more about trying to maintain control and dominance through any means necessary than about mayhem, it seems.
This interview with Kyle is useful--he refers to Mr. C. as a shark.

I don't like the theory because I think it is bollocks.
And I am an American, so if I go out of my way to use the word "bollocks" (and yes, I know what it means, wankers), I really mean it.
Depends on your usage.
Is it "bollocks"
Is it "the bollocks"
Or is it "the dog's bollocks"
Each have subtle differences.
(I'm definitely being a wanker though) 🙂
All this talk of men's naughty bits is giving me the willies!

Unless it's "The dog's bollocks", which is the opposite.

Cue old joke about the two gay fellows in a haunted house.
New poster, & have been a long time fan since the beginning. Not sure if I'm posting in the right place about this, but here we go...
There was a scene in the promos where we see Cooper driving somewhere at night, & since we haven't seen yet, it has yet to happen.
It got me wondering if that was still evil Mr. C or good Cooper (formerly Dougie Jones) driving to Twin Peaks in an upcoming episode.
I have a feeling it could still be evil Mr. C, who just cut his hair, cleaned up, & put on a suit, to make everyone in Twin Peaks think the old Coop is back.
This is considering that no one in Twin Peaks but Andy, knows there are 2 Coopers. Unless I'm wrong, and it already mentioned that others know already.

Yep, it's been discussed but it's still an interesting and so far valid idea.
Welcome to this place, btw. I once wrote a story featuring a character called Aelita, not that it's relevant to anything but there you go.
The thing I wonder about is if Mr C will step into the role of Agent Cooper while Dale returns to Vegas to be with Dougie's family.

Definitely agree that Bob and Mr C are separate entities (another one of the small number of things that is obvious, IMO). They probably have separate agendas and fates as well. The million dollar question (with apologies to non-Americans), however, is whether or not Bob is still with Mr C. This is crucial in the grander scheme, IMO, and I'm inclined to agreee with you and continue to think that he no longer is based, partly, upon how he was treated at the Dutchman's (lack of seeing Bob since part 8 is compelling as well).
