I'm cribbing this from a thread in the Twin Peaks Reddit forum, this observation isn't my own, but I found it intriguing.
Basically, while we've focused a lot on the dialogue in the Audrey & Charlie scenes, one thing that could also be worth a look is how there have been no establishing shots for those scenes.
I've been trying to think, and it seems like we've had establishing shots for so many other scenes and places. Those that come to mind are:
- Twin Peaks Sheriff's Office
- Lucky 7 Insurance office (area)
- Dougie & Janey-E's house
- the hotel in Buckhorn
- the FBI jet
- Big Ed's Gas Farm
- the convenience store
- The Roadhouse
If I had to guess, the lack of establishing shots for Audrey's scenes are no doubt to throw us off and add to the mystery of where she's at. Though it should be mentioned that, until she died in Part 15, we did not see (in The Return) the outside of Margaret Lanterman's house, so there were no establishing shots for her scenes, and I don't think that meant something strange was up. Nor (if memory serves correctly) have we had establishing shots for Sarah Palmer's scenes at home. Yes, we saw the exterior of the Palmer house when Hawk went to visit, but I don't think the scenes where she's just been sitting at home watching TV were preceded by establishing shots. Not sure if that's significant or not.
Ah, well. Just an observation.

I might be wrong, but I thought we had seen the outside of log ladys cabin in the woods in the past episodes.
But that is a good point, that we don't see establishing shots for Audrey. I know some are reaching the conclusion that she is simply dead, and stuck in some wood AKA Josie. Thus unable to exit the door of an old wooden-furnitured house, which has an old woody look to it. Somewhere I read that commentators think she is in the wood of the booth at the Roadhouse, where people who are seemingly connected to her always sit. However, I don't think Audrey ever had much connection to the Roadhouse. She was a bit of a loner and didn't hang out with Laura or Donna or Shelly, at least not that I recall. I honestly don't see her stuck in wood and wish she would just walk out that door and establish the shot!
- and the furnishings of the house she's in are so dated & stuffy - there must be some reason for them being like that...?

Yeah... because these scenes are in Audrey's (or somebody's) mind.

But I don't see hew she would dream stuff like that up as it's very not 'of her time' - so who would automatically think of decor resembling that?
Sadly, If Audrey is not dead or in a coma I am sure she is in for some trouble. Charlie ain't going take being choked kindly. Come on Charlie, call up the paddy wagon and get her a new suit. Put her winy foul mouth away.

Sometimes dreams make sense and sometimes not at all... they can't all be explained
Establishing Audrey is a great name for a band.

thereabouts for sure. the publication dates of the books we were able to make out in the background of the first audrey/charlie scenes definitely hover around another important year..1945.
Four Qartets is a few years earlier and Sunset Boulevard a few years later. But I myself don't think that there's a connection to a specific date, it's more about evoking a particular ambience.
These scenes with Audrey & Charlie feel so disconnected from the major plot lines. I'd like to see Audrey put on her damn coat and open the door already. I'm tired of seeing her closed off from the world and in this Charlie space, whatever and wherever it is.
