I know that there are 2 dates but with them already going on the first date is there a reason to go back on the 2nd??

Wouldn't you, after what happened on the first date..? If it has the slightest chance of being significant for your research, you'd do it. (And this time, you'd bring a frigging camera and film everything so you wouldn't have to rely on your faulty memory!)
