I think the Roadhouse songs have been pretty dull on the whole.  Best tunes in the series so far for me was whatever it was that the carjackers were playing when they drove past Dougie's car, Chromatic's Shadow, Jonny Jewel's Windswept, and Badalamenti's Fireman.

I'm hoping that we get a devastatingly sad new Julee Cruise track.

I actually think the music has been well suited this series.

My only gripe was with the poor mining on this episode, although watching it again it's clear that's more to do with the sound in conjunction with the scene (bad setup/unrealistic sound to surroundings) than the actual performer doing a bad mime.

Poor mining?

You can blame the Tories for constantly underfunding our industries, running down our supplies until we're dependent on imports.

Oh, you meant miming?

Anyhow, it's not miming, it's lip-synching.  Miming is those annoying bastards with white faces.

HTH

😉

Sorry I had a conversation about Margaret Thatcher yesterday closing down the mines, must've been a subconscious typo 😀

Maybe the Roadhouse needs a mime for the finale. This one may be available.

I didn't think it was bad music, but the weird lip-sync which was weirdly out of context and overly exaggerated really threw me off. Like the performance did not match the recording at all, yet the other musical scenes have completely matched the syncing. The didn't do justice to the episode. Would have been nice to get vibes along the lines of Snake Eyes or NiN.

New to this thread; apologies tendered for any redundancies, though I did my best to read every word.  Got a little confused in the Freddy Krueger chapters. 🙂

Lissie's not my cup of tea, but if I was in that real neck of the woods, it would probably be the most likely act out of all of them to be possibly found in a roadhouse.  It's real militia country up there, and I guarantee you zero chance in hell anyone would be soliciting the Chromatics for a stop.  Nostalgia-be-damned, Julee Cruise either.  Ain't no dreamy pink light music happening in 'Murica.

Possibly, maybe, if the tour bus had a serious breakdown the Cactus Blossoms could win over that audience with their Everly Brothers revival act (which I kinda dug, though it seems I'm alone on that).  Real Roadhouse patrons will have heard their dads or grandparents play records with those midcentury elements accurately reconstructed, and the boys' time-honed harmonizing and near perfect rendering of the inflection and variation lends a legitimacy to the all but forgotten country style.  Sadly, though those two millennials still exude a strong city slicker vibe about 'em and sure have purty mouths.  One slip that far out in the mountains could be disastrous.

Strangely, if NIN (also not my usual preference, but I LOVED it THIS time in THIS way--!!) pulled one of their unscheduled shows just over the border in the dark safety of Canada, I could see a jam-packed roadhouse with woodsmen of every political stripe communing with pharmaceuticals in every color.  It's happened.

Great post, Sub.  It made me think of the Blues Brothers scene in the country bar.
