I was really scared for Andy to go into the vortex! I didn't want anything bad to happen to such an innocent (and maybe I perceived him as weak-ish) character. But I saw after that he was the perfect vessel to receive the knowledge. He's also stronger (strength of heart; brave, I guess) than I think I ever gave him credit for.
I kind of feel bad for underestimating him now.
I actually, out loud, gasped when he disappeared. I was so worried for a second. That outcome was so much better than anything I could have theorized about and that scene of him coming back and holding Naido is one of my all time favorite moments of television.... ever.
This whole scene provoked out-loud gasps from me. The eyeless woman, Andy disappearing, Andy with the Fireman, his return with absolute calm knowledge. One thing after another.
Of all the numerous "wham" scenes in this show so far, this has to be one of the biggest. And it was executed well-nigh perfectly by everyone involved.
There are 2 windows in the ceiling during that scene. Perhaps the Fireman will have another audience with 2 guests later.
I'm fairly sure at this point Coop will go there in one of the next episodes, we saw a scene in the trailer in which he walks in the darkness with Philip Gerard guiding him (he can be seen only by increasing the brightness of the image), and we've got the scene at the very beginning of season 3 which is probably set in the future.
Then there are two other important things. The first, we know that in Major Briggs' message there were two dates, 10/1 and 10/2. I assume the events of part 14 are set on the first of October, so maybe something is going to happen on the next day at that very same place and Andy or someone else is going to meet the Fireman (again?).
The second, Carel Struycken, the actor who plays the Giant/Fireman, has said in interviews before season 3 was released that he appears in only 4 scenes, but all of them are essential. Now we've seen him in 3 scenes this far (the one with Coop, the creation of Laura and the meeting with Andy). So we'll get him again for another scene for sure and maybe it could be with a second host.
Andy is a holy fool. Having him go to the white lodge really was perfect. We needed to see his Stan Laurel hair in black and white for the full effect.
And Lucy! What about Lucy? The fact that she brought her pyjama and robe for Naido was sooo sweet!
I think the Fireman chose him because he was the tallest.
Good to see Andy as something more than a comedy character. In many ways, he's similar to the old Cooper, in that he has the boy scout idealism going for him.
Now, maybe he has the inner strength, too.
One hell of an army Cooper is assembling, what with the Vegas guys, Power Glove Man and Andy. Mr C better watch his ass.
Remember what Cooper told to Andy when preparing to leave?
Your bravery can only be exceed by the greatness of your heart. Rare combination indeed.
I think y'all are forgetting Andy in Part 7. When he went to talk to the "farmer" about his truck. Andy was stern, authoritative, and in command.
I knew we'd see more of that later on. 🙂

Very true. A genuine turnaround from the wet behind the ears guy he used to be. The real world needs more guys like him.

I didn't remember that. I have tears.
It's really touching and beautiful scene . Cooper's farewell to the sheriff station crew.
Brilliantly done.
How wonderful that it is Andy. How unexpected, and then, seeing him there sitting across from the Fireman, it just seemed so clear, and so perfect.
I can't wait to see more of post-lodge Andy.
I agree!! So cool to see him come up from being the underdog in the show!!! He has such purpose! So awesome to see!
I'm secretly hoping Wally Brando is the key to all this.
