"We may never get confirmation of who Richard's parents are. "
An escapee from the local loony bin tied up Ben and had sex with him without protection and was not caught until after she gave birth. Now I've spoiled the big reveal.
It was booed, not laughed at. A big part of that was people of Cannes hated the head of CIBY-2000 which produced the film.
Why was that? There's so much behind the scenes drama I don't know about. I just watched FWWM for the first time after the first couple episodes of the return and was floored by it. I was shocked to find out everyone, at the time, panned it.
Then I found out everyone hated Dune. How can anyone hate Dune? That was my childhood sci fi movie!
Why does everyone hate everything I love.
FWWM is still to this day one of my favorite films, not just a favorite of Lynch's films. I didn't fully understand the backlash back then. Perhaps it's partly because I hadn't watched all of season 2 at the time. I didn't finish watching season 2 until 4 or 5 years later when both seasons 1 and 2 were released on VHS. I understood FWWM better at that point and enjoyed it even more. People hated FWWM with a passion though and there weren't a ton of folks that praised it. Happy that has changed (told you so - and, similarly, I have a feeling that the mind's of some fans will be changed long after this season has ended). I don't even want to imagine how a forum like this one would've played out back then. I'm also a fan of Dune probably because, like you, I first saw it at a young age.
I also love Wild at Heart mainly because of Laura Dern but also because I love Barry Gifford's poetry and the novels that inspired the film. Not to mention Lynch's contributions. A lot of folks and critics hated Wild at Heart. They can hate all they want it has no impact on my appreciation.
As far as the OP is concerned, I don't need (want!) all or even a lot the various threads neatly tied up. What I need (want!) is my mind blown and senses overloaded.
I fully expect that we will come full circle towards the end and have Coop and the Giant discussing the sounds, Richard and Linda, 430. Quite how Coop gets there I can't begin to imagine. I'm completely convinced Coop will return to normal, the pre-series trailer pretty much confirmed that.
I think some other scenes from Ep 1 will be key: I'm intrigued by the Twin Peaks Insurance man theory doing the rounds. Also wondering whether that skunk in the Great Northern has some significance, possibly the smell wasn't a skunk but garmonbozia.
I don't expect to get all the answers, but I will be disappointed if we don't find out what's happening to Audrey and what "remember 430", two birds, one stone. means.
sorry end of season 2 was not a cliffhanger, not the Cooper part. That was simply "wow wonder what happens next" But thats not what cliffhanger means
I'm certain Lynch and Frost know exactly what's happening with Audrey. Whether they tell us or not is a whole nother thing.
Cliffhanger... yes it was. From Wikipedia:
A cliffhanger, or cliffhanger ending, is a plot device in fiction which features a main character in a precarious or difficult dilemma, or confronted with a shocking revelation at the end of an episode[1] of serialized fiction.
Ticks the boxes for me.
sorry end of season 2 was not a cliffhanger, not the Cooper part. That was simply "wow wonder what happens next" But thats not what cliffhanger means
It was one of the biggest & longest cliffhangers in history.
We still have 5 episodes to go. A lot can happen in 5 hours of TV. I think we're in for one hell of a ride.
Mysteries are more interesting than solutions, so I hope too much isn't made explicit.
